what do you feed?

i feed dabian science diet puppy (small bites).
3 cups at 7:00am and 3 cups 4:30-5:00pm.
with small SD treats during the day and 1 before bed about 10:30p

i used to feed him iams but i wanted to go with a better quality food, not saying that iams isnt a decent food but a few months ago our golden got really sick, we had no idea where it came from until we found bugs in the food. i only switched because i didnt feel that a company that big doesent have better quality control.
hey, when something goes wrong with your beloved pets you get a little paranoid.

I feed my adult dachshund Precise Sensative formula and the puppy is on NutroMax for now. I want to switch to Innova but it's hard to find in my area and I am waiting for Lucy to switch to adult food in 3 months.

Actually feed my pup Iams just because of the good results we have always gotten with Iams. sucks to hear bad results regardless.

I've noticed that my pets have shiner coats good bathroom cycles, etc. better hair etc so I change them right back after trying something else.

Sadly we are pretty un regular but its like two times a day, two cups. Or three times a day 1cup and a half.

SouthernGirl, there is a really high quality food called Chicken Soup for the Doglovers Soul

I feed OC 1-2cups of Wellness Super5 per day. Yes that's per day NOT per meal. Sibes are notorious for being able to gather every single bit of nutrient from each lil molecule of kibble so they can be fed considerably less food than other breeds the same size and weight (23inches at the withers and 61Lbs). If anything OC's actually a little over weight and it's not like he gets a lot of treats....just a couple bisquits at night before bed for going in the kennel, and sometimes some Peanut Butter in his rawhide bone or Kong.

I use Pro Plan to make "My Musher's Mash" which I feed to OC and any other dog I join up with, after a long distance run.

Cheers!

After studying ingredients and some more on nutrition, I have come to the opinion that Science Diet is not a great food.

My Dobe has had problems with loose stools when eating Canidae and Chicken Soup for the dog lover's soul. (both excellent foods) So I tried Dick Van Patten's Venison (allergy) formula and that seems to be agreeing with him. That is another premium food.

If you read up on what a dog should have, what does them no good, about preservatives and meat which contains euthanizing drugs and other garbage, at what temperatures they're cooked in order to maintain vitamins and minerals, suppliments they contain and a whole host of other factors, I think you'll come to see which foods are really premium. There's Innova, the others I mentioned and some others. Good luck.

Here's one thing....a look at some ingredients and a way to compare side by side some of the foods. There is a lot more out there to read.

Purina One, Pedigree, California Natural, and Nutro my dogs eat different foods. They all eat different amounts too. California Natural is what we use most. I try to stay away from food with soy and food with alot of corn. Also low taurine content.

I feed Canidae, although I'm thinking of switching Lyra over to Natural Balance to see if it helps out her allergies (Canidae doesn't make an allergy formula).

I agree with Carrie about Science Diet. Way too much filler and by product.

i must say this about the science diet, his stools are eh, firmer.
when he was on the iams he would shite all the time, now with the SD its firmer and not nearly as often.
i give him 2cups 7am and 3 cups 5pm is that too much?
i never assumed so because he gobbles it right up and hes not overweight at all.
