Angry

I just checked Emma's treats they are Nutra Natural Choice Lamb & Rice. They have wheat Gluten in them. Just to stay safe she isn't getting anymore of them. Geez what's next. Guess you just never know anymore. You may want to check your treats if you have any from any of the companies involved, to be safe. I read that the problem is in the cuts 'n gravy they use
wheat gluten which they had just started receiving from a
new supplier. It's so frustrating.

I know about the canned foods. I feed dry Nutro puppy and Iams puppy. Does anyone know if the DRY foods are also recalled? Brodie was neutered on Wednesday, but has not been eating much and has had diahhrea, which I attibute to anesthesia reaction. He did just polish off a helping of boiled hamburg/rice.

I cook for mine so I know they are eating safe and nutritious foods. I've always tried to put the word out about dog food and how it's "ALL" made. This won't be the last time something like this happens. When dead and diseased animals are re-cycled over and over and over again and made into to food for farm and companion animales, pretty soon it's nothing but pure toxic material that we will continue to die from cancers, liver, kidney and heart disease. It has to stop.

I agree with you, calgal for the most part and think the good thing that came of this is exposure that most dog foods come from the SAME source and mainly differ in packaging.

Several months ago, I started cooking for and feeding raw food to my guys with only tiny bit of "good" kibble. However, even those of us who cook for their dogs are feeding them meat from animals that may have been fed on bad foods. No? I mean, I can see how we can reduce the risk but not how we can completely avoid any contamination.

Personally, I wash my fresh fruit and veggies in water that can be contaminated. I don't think there is any way ensure 100% safe eating so I pray over my food (and my dogs') in faith and keep stepping.

yes, it is amazing how many companies make multiple foods and most folks dont' know it.

I wish I could feed raw, but it's not possible right now....thankfully i don't feed the brands mentioned in the recall.

I just looked at the site that Pearlulm put up. I think we are safe. Ol'Roy is up on the list, but not the kind of Ol'Roy i use for food or the kind i use for treats. *sigh*
But, i told my mom about it, and so now i can hopefully get her to let us ship some food in.

Beryl, you can soak fresh veggies in a gallon of water with 20 drops of chlorine bleach for 15 minutes. As for the meat, get free range beef and chickens and buy veal and lamb.

I dislike cooking, even for myself. Can't ask the spouse to cook for the dogs too. But, we've been discussing more whole foods, less kibble (we don't feed moist dogfoods) for the hondjies. We get the freerange chicken ourselves and I boil the bones for the broth, skim fat/bones and then use on dry kibble.

I can't afford the full raw diet for the dogs unless we're going to eat cereal and water.

I should feed my dogs free range chicken/beef but I think it is safe to feed them the best USDA inspected human meat at the lowest cost.

As long as I can find chicken for less than $1/lb, they'll each get the 3% body weight (a little over a quarter lb) each day along with some veggies, a glob of yogurt, and natural treats during the day. The cost - less than $1 for both toy dogs. That is not much different than feeding straight quality kibble.

I'm done with buying any commercial dog food for now. I have enough sample quality kibble (Nature's Variety, Flint River Ranch, Natural Balance, Evo etc) to supplement their meals for months.

Just because it says "free range" doesn't mean its safe. All it means is that the farm they are raised on has put a door in that they can go in and out of if they "choose" to. They are still fed the foods they have been feeding for years. Its just that now they are given the option to go outside. The only way to feed true free range is to buy chicks yourself, then you would have to have chicks from those to get the hormones out. They would have to eat hormone free food that you grow, as well as the bugs on the ground around your house.

Not to sound negative, but they had a big thing on the news about it, and explained that "free range" and "organic" doesn't necessarily mean what we think.
