Is wet food bad
Lucy (The Chihuahua), is an EXTREMELY picky eater. She will only eat wet food, and only certain kinds. She likes Chicken soup wet, and Purina Pro Plan (Even though the first ingredient is Chicken, I know its not the best food). She will NOT eat dry, and I know people say dogs won't starve themselves, she WILL, and she has. I tried just giving her dry, and I set it out three times a day, and watched her, and she wouldn't touch it. After the FOURTH day of her getting no food whatsoever, I said screw it, and I gave her wet and she ate an entire can of it. So she will only eat wet food.
I wanted to try those dry food flavor sauces..but I have heard they don't really work for picky dogs. |

I wouldn't necessarily say wet food is bad. I just personally don't feed it. Partially because whenever any dog of mine has had it, they had terrible GAS......ewww! Their stool was never as solid either. And my biggest complaint with wet food. It sticks to their teeth! Never have any of the dogs I've ever owned had teeth like the ones I had growing up who were fed wet food. I also find that doggie breath is NASTY when they eat wet food, PHEW! Anyway, those are my reasons for not feeding wet food. Also I like the simplicity and non-mess of kibble.

Her stools are pretty firm, never wet. She does FART A LOT...and they smell horrible. Her teeth I was worried about, because she won't let me brush them, but she does eat dog treats, and loves greenies...so those help keep her teeth clean. Her breath is pretty bad..lol I just cannot get her to eat anything but wet..shes a pretty delicate eater..and isn't messy.

Will she eat mince or something like that? Raw meat has got to be better for her than wet food - mainly because canned food is mainly just water anyway so a waste of money IMO.
Or are you able to get like a meatloaf type thing for her something that's obviously made up of mainly meat and veges so better nutrionally for her than the canned stuff. |

I disagree. Canned food (assuming the brand is a great brand) can actually be pretty good. If that's what she'll eat, then feed it too her. Raw would probably be better for any dog, but if you can't feed it or she won't eat it...canned is fine. Don't feel bad about her not eating kibble. There is nothing wrong with 'wet food'.

I don't think there's anything wrong with canned either. Just take care of her teeth in other ways (bones and such), and I don't see any problems with it. There are many dogs at my work who eat just canned food, and their poop is normal. Although, I've never smelt their breath or anything. LOL So I wouldn't know about that department.
My only other suggestion besides raw, would be to cook for her. I know calgal cooks for her little ones, and there are a LOT of recipes in the Recipe section. http://www.globalpaw.com/forum/dogtr...ambandrice.php I don't think it would be expensive to feed her, cause she's so tiny But, those are my thoughts ![]() |

I would recommend Sarahs suggesting (raw/cooked over canned) and actually, canned food is so bloody expensive, I think it would actually be CHEAPER in the long run for you to feed raw/cooked.

Most canned food is better than kibble because the food has undergone less processing. Less processing is good. Home cooking is better and raw is the best (unless your dog's system has been compromised or is unhealthy). |

Lucy won't eat raw meat, I am sure of that! We have made homecooked food for her, and she picked out the chicken, and left everything else...Is that fine?
Also, why was my avatar removed? Was in the content? I was kind of worried about that a little. |
