Firstly, WELCOME!
![]() Ultra Natural -- I've never heard of this brand before. Can you post the ingredients? If it's a low quality food, some dogs tend to have severe flatulence, bad body odor, and their stools are just not of a good consistency. If it's a higher quality food, some dogs don't do well on it either. How long have you been feeding your poodle this food? |

Yes that sounds right, but im still not sure what to feed her...i read about the special nutritional needs of a poodle, but none of the sites recommened a specific dry food for poodles or small dogs, poodles digestion systems are much different from many other breeds.

My toy poodle eats the same thing as my min pin. Raw and home cooking. Raw includes chicken wings & whole game hens (bones and all), raw ground beef and Nature's Variety Raw Medallions (lamb or beef). They will be getting raw turkey soon. Home cooking is primarily chicken stew (chicken, veggies, and vitamin/mineral mix to put back the nutrition that processing removes) or canned fish (mackerel, salmon) & veggies.
Both dogs are healthy, enjoy meal time, have tiny poops that don't smell, and have shiny white teeth because of the bones. |

I don't really have the time to cook her meals, Im looking for a good dry dog food....I'm pretty sure poodles nutritional needs are different, it can be different for any breed of dog. She has no allergies. I read books about the breed being bred into what it is today, some where along the line their stomachs and bodies developed different needs. As with any other dog breed. Its the same with my horses. I just don't know what to feed tootsie. I was thinking of Science Diet, but that is on this sites "ugly" list.

Canidae and Wellness have my vote. Science Diet I personally wouldn't feed to any animal. jmo I'm a huge fan of supplements as well to assist with individual needs. Even if you can't cook all the time maybe once or twice a week a little something special added into the food?

My Belgian Sheepdog and my pom eat the same thing as I fed my rottie and my beagle before them. They both died of old age. I recommend Canidae, Wellness and Merrick's. I would feed Purina before I touched a bag of Science Diet. |

Liz, I am on several poodle lists and the consensus is that poodle feeding is not breed specific. Many poodles are very active so they may do best on foods that other very active dogs require. Poodles with grain allergies do best with no-grain formulas, and so on.
Science Diet is not recommended by many non-SD trained vets purely based on the ingredients list. A named meat should be the first on the list. SD has many varieties but here are a couple with a subset of ingredients highlighted that I would not feed: 1. Advanced Protection® Adult Quote:

If I were to feed a kibble, it would be Instinct by Nature's Variety or Evo because I prefer no-grain formulas. Instinct Ingredients Quote:
