And of course another question!!!
I am planning to feed my puppy three times a day on an as much as possible consistent schedule (very small differences each day on the time she will be fed; I have written a schedule down with all the times from the time she will be up to the time she will be asleep the night). Only Mondays will be a problem, and she will be fed her third meal on a different time than the rest of the days. If I see it creates problem, I can ask someone to feed her while I am gone, but I am trying to avoid it. However, how do I know how much to feed? I have decided in a month to change the breeder's food with Innova (It is Holistic I think)? But I do not know how much to put in her bowl each time. How much Pro-Plan food should she get in her bowl each time for her third meals? How much Innova later, she should get in her bowl? Also, when do you stop feeding three times? |

The breeder should let you know how much they are currently feeding Niki so that should help you out.
Try and check the Innova website and see if they have a feeding guide for puppies - if not talk to your vet about it. I don't think there's any hard and fast rule about when to cut out the third meal - I remember River told us when he didn't want it anymore by not eating it but I've got no idea how old he was when this happened!! Again this is something you can talk with your vet about perhaps. |

Thank you Rivsky; I just emailed the breeder to ask.
I mostly want to make sure that I do not over or under feed her the first couple days with me before we get to the vet. Plus, she would be sooo tired from the loong trip, so I do not want to give her extra stress by under / over feeding her her first day with me. |

I agree, ask the breeder. But you also have to keep in mind what type of food you're feeding. If you're choosing a food much higher in quality, you'd be best off probably reading the feeding guide on the side, match that up with what the breeder was feeding, and then figure out about what you think shoudl be fed. Or atleast "transition" them over to less/more food. The better the food, the less you feed.

Here is the info I got already.
Niki is fed five times a day! She will let me know the right amound and it is also written on the pack that is coming with Niki. I can switch her to adult food Innova when Niki is 3-4 months old. |

I wouldn't worry about an precise schedule for feeding if it's approximately the same time each day. If it's 7 AM a few mornings, and 8:30 AM other mornings, it won't make a big difference. I've never had Sophie on a precise schedule, because our lives are so chaotic, and she's always been fine!
I think it's much more important to make sure that she avoids a lot of physical activity and excitement for an hour or two after feedings because of risk of bloat (especially large, deep chested dogs) and poor digestion. |

At 7 weeks old, Niki should be fine eating 4 times a day, and then you can go down to 3 times a day in a few weeks. I generally keep my puppies on 3 meals a day until they're around 6 months old. Innova has a large breed puppy formula you can feed her, and you should switch her over from the pro plan to the Innova over a week long period or so. I wouldn't start switching her right away, let her have the familiarity of the food she's used to while she's settling in and getting used to her new home. After maybe a week, then you can start switching her food to Innova.

Hi,
I ask the breeder, I should switch her slowly in about a month to Innova. She said when she is four months I need to give her adult food with less than 24% protein. It will help her slowly, but steadily because the puppy food makes them grow too fast and for these dogs is not good for their joints. She eats 200 grams dry kibble each day, 4 times a day. I got a scale to measure how much she is eating. She also told me that Niki loooves cottage cheese and yogart. ![]() |
