What does everyone think about this dog food?

Kirkland Signature (Costco brand) Adult dog food. Its made by the Diamond dog food company, same maker of Chicken Soup. The ingredients are exactly the same, it just has the costco name. Its also cheaper than crappy foods. It was 16.59$ (For a 40 pound bag), and Beneful is 19.99$...And chicken Soup here is about 25.99$. I bought two bags of it today, and I plan on feeding them this. I buy the food now, with my own money. And my mom buys the cats food. (22 cats to feed, and 12 dogs to feed). I also buy my rodent food (Which I make at home with ingredients I get at the grocery store, I feed them a recommended High quality food), and I buy my turtle, rabbit, and fish food and supplies. So most of my pay check goes to my pets. And Lucy (Chihuahua) gets Innova evo, which is pretty cheap considering its feeding a 2 pound dog lol, and she won't eat dry..and one can lasts several days.. I wish I could afford to feed everyone Innova.

What are the ingredients listed in the Kirkland Signature food (in exact order)?

Kirkland, is equivalent to any other premium kibble -- including the Innova varieties that contain grain (not Evo). It is just cheaper. If you are on a tight budget, want to feed kibble and have access to a Costco, this is the one to choose.

I found this on the web but not on an official site:
Quote:
Lamb, Lamb meal, whole grain brown rice, rice flour, white rice, egg product, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat (preserved witn mixed tocoperols and Vitamine E), beet pulp, potatoes, fishmeal, flaxseed, natural flavor, milet, brewers dried yest, carrots, peas, choline chloride, rosemary extract, parsley flake, dried chicory root, glucosamine hydrochloride, taurine, vitamin E suppliment, iron proteinate, copper proteninate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteniate, manganous oxide, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), Vitamin B12 supplement, menadione sodium bivulfite (source of vitamin K activity), riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid

ummm well do NOT buy any dog food with any "glutens" in it. these can cause your dog to die. also, natural dog foods are the best choice. some of these can be bought over internet.

My mom feeds the Kirkland's Chicken to her dogs and I feed the Lamb and Rice to my two. I am happy to report that all are doing well.

I feed the chicken formula, so no lamb in it.

The ingredients on the bag:
Chicken,Chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat (preserved witn mixed tocoperols and Vitamine E), beet pulp, potatoes, fishmeal, flaxseed, natural flavor, milet, brewers dried yest, carrots, peas,kelp,apples..etc

About the same. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the "fish" meal. It is not as descriptive as I'd like. Other than that, it looks like a more expensive premium kibble.

I feed the lamb and rice and have fed the chicken formula. The chicken formula gave Aysa bad gas but all of them do well on the lamb (good coats, good poops, don't have to eat much). Been feeding it for almost a year now. I really think it's the best "good" food you can buy for the price. It was never recalled (except the canned, I think? Which was manufactured at a different plant or something), either.

I am glad to know other people feed it and like it! I can't wait to see the difference in their coats, which were surprisingly already very soft/. (Charlotte has THE softest coat I have ever felt.). Lucy has a very shiny, soft coat as well. (She has only been fed high quality food since I got her).

Kirkland is a great quality brand, for a great price. We've been feeding the Chicken for about 3 years and our dogs are still very much alive and healthy !!!! We just switched them to Lamb and Rice because 2 have allergies, so instead of buying 2 different flavors, we'd just put all the dogs on the Lamb(took a while huh... lol )..

Kirkland Signature actually sounds like a good dog food for the price (surprisingly!). I think you've made a great find with this one, and it's good to see corn isn't listed in the ingredients (though I'd like to know what 'fish meal' and 'lamb meal' are).

The "fish meal" piece also gives me pause but it is further down on the list. According to dogfoodproject.com:
Quote:
Fish Meal
AAFCO: The clean, rendered, dried ground tissue of undecomposed whole fish or fish cuttings, either or both, with or without the extraction of part of the oil.
Like with all other animal sources, if a type isn't specified, you never know what type or quality of fish is used. According to US Coast Guard regulations, all fish meal not destined for human consumption must be conserved with Ethoxyquin (unless the manufacturer has a special permit). This preservative is banned from use in foods for human consumption except for the use of very small quantities as a color preservative for spices. So unless the manufacturer either presents a permit or states "human grade" fish or fish meal is used, you can be pretty sure Ethoxyquin is present in the food even if it is not listed.
I'm OK with the lamb meal (and chicken meal) based on this comment:
Quote:
Protein, in the form of quality meat ingredients, is the most important component of a dog's diet. As animals with a carnivorous background, their digestive tract is designed to utilize primarily meat and fat. It is also the most expensive ingredient for a manufacturer to buy and the profit margin on a product is drastically affected by the amount and quality used. Ideally, the first ingredient of a food should be either a specified meat meal, or a specified fresh meat type followed by a meal. If your individual dog's specific needs limit you to using foods that do not include a concentrated source of meat in meal form, I highly recommend supplementing with fresh or canned meats on a daily basis.
If I was stuck in a situation where I couldn't provide cooked or raw food, I wouldn't refuse to feed Kirkland. Only a disaster would let me allow my dogs to be fed Iams, Purina, Science Diet etc. (But then, I'd be eating it also!)

Seems like Kirkland is relatively similar to some formulas of Diamond. Similar ingredients and price. I have fed Diamond before, but prefer higher quality feed such as Canidae, Innova, etc. But I'm certainly not against feeding something like the higher quality formulas of Diamond (their Naturals line is not too bad) - it's an okay food for the low price. I think Chicken Soup is a decent food, and it's really not too expensive, so that might be something to look into. Also, there's a line called Exclusive made by PMI that is not too bad, and not all that expensive either.
