Effects of Bil Jac

So, we bought Bil Jac a few weeks ago, because the lady at PetSmart told us that the way it was processed was better than other foods, and that our dog would do well on it. I checked the good, bad and ugly dog food list and Bil Jac was on the "ugly" list. So I kept an eye out.

Well, as of now, Murphy's fur is oily, we're seeing a lot more poop in the backyard, and he's losing small clumps of hair (and it's close to winter, which means he should be gaining hair.) My question is: are these all effects of the new dog food, or some of them, or none of them?

Either way, we plan on changing back to Natural Balance as soon as possible.

If the only change made in his life was the food, then yes I'd say it is the new food.
After you change back, keep an eye on him and see if everything goes back to normal. If it doesn't, obviously take him to the vet for a check up.

You might want to go back and let the woman at PetSmart know how bad it actually is and what a terrible effect it had on your dog. She might stop recommending it to people (well, we can hope anyway LOL).

Cass.

Thanks for the reply, and I'll tell my parents that (they were actually the ones to get the food)

Bil Jac is nasty stuff. Natural Balance is a far superior food.
Here's one formula reviewed...

The lady may have been a sales rep. for the Bil Jac company. She gets paid to sell the food so you can't believe anything she says, essentially. lol Several brands of dog food hire people to go into the pet stores and sell the food to customers. I've been approached by one from Nutro.

We changed to Nutro Pet Promise today. It may not be on the "good" list but it beats Bil Jac. I checked the ingredients, the very first one was just plain chicken. So we'll try this instead.

I've had problems with Nutro. My dogs get stinky poo and actually don't like eating it. The cat however loves is.

My dogs and I prefer Innova and Nature's Varitey. If you are going to PetsMart for food then I'd suggest looking into Blue Buffalo or Royal Canin.

Blue Buffalo looks pretty good. I've fed their canned cat food to shelter cats, it actually looked and smelled good, well for canned cat food of course. I was surprised.

Blue Buffulo is much better than Nutro (unless it's Nutro Ultra).

Petco and PetSmart are really all we have. I did see Royal Canin there...no Blue Buffalo, though. I saw several Nature-related names...Nature's Variety, Natural Balance, etc.

We used to feed our dogs Chicken Soup brand, but nobody has that here.

About Blue Buffalo, it's new to PetsMart, it's in all the ones I go to here in Central California. You might be able to special order it from the store manager, if it is not on the shelf. It's on their website too. I would not trust the regular sales people with a special order like this so make sure you ask for the manager.

PetsMart>Home>Dog>Dry Food>Blue Buffalo

We have Chicken Soup band in major grocery stores and natural food markets but have not taken the time to research that brand.

Is Chicken Soup Dog Kibble a good one?

So far his fur has lost most of its oilyness and he seems to like it fine.
