2 year old ground beef looks like fresh meat, GMA covered it, YUCK!

For those of you feeding raw beef and pork to your dogs, beware!

Yesterday I was shocked to see contaminated old beef that looked pink and fresh on Good Morning America. Talk about sickening! They are treating the beef and pork with carbon monoxide so the meat does not brown as it ages. SO you can have old meat that is unsafe to eat, but it still looks pink and fresh.

It reminded me of the films Fast Food Nation and Super Size Me.

Many countries have outlawed this practice but not the U.S....not surprised, just grossed out and disappointed!

Red meat is what people want to buy, actually red. It shows who fresh an old piece of meat can look with treatment. And treated or not e. coli will be in raw meat, I don't know why they had to bring up e. coli in the video. I guess its going to have to proven that treating the meat to give it the pink color is actually bad or not. I say if it stinks to don't eat it, I don't even eat fish if it smells fishy. And don't eat 2 year old meat, check the date.

Well I would go a step further and only buy meat from a local source. To much foreign meat is finding it's way in the food supply, so I'd suggest find a quality butcher and/or farmer.

In our town we have ranchers who raise grass-fed cattle and organic free-range chickens. The down side of buying from ranchers is that you need to have lots of freezer space or people to split orders with you since they usually have a minimum order of 1 cow or 20 chickens.

They've been doing this for a long time, but it should come as no suprise. Next to what the Tobacco lobbyists used to be and what the Pharmacuetical lobbyists are now, the food industry is so deep in the pockets of politicians I wouldn't expect much change.

I mean look at what is happening with Avandia, the diabetic drug. Found to be dangerous increase mortality rates and kill people from something other than diabetes, and the person at the FDA that first spoke up about it is now being reprimanded by the FDA. Some watch group huh? The food industry is even more powerful than that pharam industry, i'm suprised we aren't importing meat from china painted with red lead paint and calling it legal.
