Bananas aren't harmful to your dog if given in moderation. Fruit is sugary and too much can cause their stool to be loose and watery, much like how it effects humans. I wouldn't feed em as a meal but maybe a couple slices as a treat, depending on how much they love em. Also, while on the subject of giving fruit to dogs, never give them grapes (or raisins) as they can be toxic..

Hope this helps.

Raw bananas are good...my dog's don't like them but others here on the forum give bananas to their dogs. The only time I'd be concerned is if your dog is on a low potassium diet such as dogs with kidney problems.

I swore to myself that Brody wouldn't get human food; however, I have failed. He hasn't had any banana, but when I sit down with some roasted chestnuts, I give him training size bits. He does have to respond to a command before he gets one.

By the way, I didn't exactly mean human food, I meant giving in when he's begging. My mother-in-law has always fed human food and her dogs have always lived to be around 18 or 20. So, y'all who are dedicated to preparing your furkids' meals, please don't "nail" me.

Interesting...where did you find this...I wanna know more! Dog's eating bananas sounds so strange but makes perfect sense since that is what's around in the environment to eat.

No nailing!! We all have our preferences and limits. I've lived with people who hate dogs begging and refused to give people food because they saw increased begging, too. I choose to feed my dogs people food, but never reward begging on purpose

I was watching a documentary on the History of the Dingo...and they were comparing Thai/Australian Dingos (apparently the same dog or very closely related)...and they also took a look into their feeding habits. The Thai dogs basically scrounged and the Australian dingoes ate mainly what they hunted.

It might have been this documentary...I remember it was on many years ago:

My dogs love bananas. We only buy them occasionally and then I either mash them up and add them to their meal mix (maybe a half banana each). Or they each get a slice for a treat.

Cool story, thanks!

Cannot find the banana thing though. Not that I don't believe you, I do, just wanted to see more on it since I love learning about dietary habits of wild dogs. All I can find is that the Asian dingo is smaller than the Australian dingo because they eat more carbohydrates than the Australian dingo....must be those bananas stunting their growth...Just kidding.

My dogs love bananas, apples, melons, orange slices, carrots, lettuce etc. They don't get these daily but enjoy them when they do get them.
