Anyone Feed Raw bone-in Turkey to your Dog?
I fed Montana another Turkey thigh. She loved it but it took her ~15 minutes to chew the darn thing. Since I have to supervise feedings....have a kid in the house that likes to hold the dog's food while they are eating and it grosses me out. YUCK!
Anyways, I'm thinking of feeding non-weight bearing turkey bones next time since the last bone was so tough. Anyone give necks or wings? Are your dog's fine with them? No vomiting turkey bone bits or cartilage? Montana vomited section she did not chew well from the thigh...not a biggy just kinda messy sometimes. |

I feed turkey necks quite often. The dogs love them and it doesnt take them too long to get down. I get them for free from my butcher too which is always nice.

River gets turkey neck regularly as well (cut in half) - they're actually his favourite bones. Because his small and doesn't use his paws to hold his bones it takes him a while to eat it. The only problem we have with them is it can make his stools too firm so he doesn't get them as often as he would like.
I've thought about feeding wings but haven't done so as yet. |

Thanks for all your replies. I will try the wings, breasts, backs and necks. I don't like giving necks too often since the meat:bone ratio is too bony for my preferences. That is why I like the thighs, the meat:bone is more balanced IMO. Maybe I'll de-bone the turkey thigh for her and give her a neck with it to complete her meal. I feed chicken thighs and chicken legs regularly without any problems but yet that's a much smaller bird than the turkey and the bones are less dense
![]() If Montana was younger and her teeth were sharper, I'm sure she would be able to handle the thigh bone with no problems...I don't view dense bones as a hazard at all, I trust that she will vomit the bits that do not get digested. We are home all day with her so it's not that big of a deal if she needs to vomit. I might classify the Turkey Leg bones more as a "chewing" bone than a "food" bone since it is so dense. I was not expecting the bone to be that tough since turkeys are slaughtered quite young. |
