I give Kenya the Wellness canned and solid mixed. I was reading about the different brands. I have thought about switching to Innova. Any thoughts on Wellness or Innova?

I'm glad to see this question as I, too, am considering a change to either Innova or Wellness. One thing I'm interested in (besides the usual health benefits) is the size of the kibble. I'm not sure if Brody doesn't like the taste or if it's the size of the kibble I feed now. He noses it around in his bowl, and carries bits and pieces around the house and just drops 'em.

Wellness and Innova are both excellent dog foods, although my personal opinion is there are good alternatives for less cost, like Canidae or Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul or Premium Edge.
I think the cheaper dog foods, like Purina or Dad's, taste better because they are the dog equivalent to junk food. I think the higher-end dog foods don't have the flavorful filler junk that makes them more palatable to dogs. Have you tried putting salmon or cod liver oil over the dry food to make it taste better? You can use the human version-the pet stores charge more for 'doggie versions' of these oils, but they are the same thing. Try getting one of the oils that are cold pressed. Mixing a bit of yogurt in it helps as well, but you don't want the kibble to get too soft because the crunching is good for their teeth and gums. |

We feed Wellness. The dogs love it, especially the Chicken and Sweet Potatoes kind. Although it can get to be pretty pricey, we'd rather buy something the dogs like, than something cheaper that will go to waste. We mix it with Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul.

I am just now switching Mandi to Wellness Core. The kibble is a little thicker than what she was getting, but she still likes it. She hasn't been on it for long enough for me to really say anything usefull, but she does eat it! lol
As for the price, I don't really notice since the small bag (4 or 6 lbs...can't remember) lasts her at least a couple of months. I only payed $9 for this bag ( I thought that was a great price). |
