Grain-Free Dog Food, Kibble and Canned?

I'm not feeding kibble anymore but I was thinking if we were to go on vacation or take a trip, kibble would be convenient for a short period of time.

Anyone feed grain-free dog foods they would recommend? I'm mainly interested in high protein and low carbs.

I used to feed Innova EVO, loved it and the dogs and cat loved it.

Anyone tried:

ZiwiPeak - Daily Dog Cuisine
Orijen - Adult Formula Dry Dog Food
Solid Gold - Barking at the Moon Dog Food
Wysong - Archetype Canine/Feline Diet
Wellness - Core

Thanks!

Thanks, I didn't see Taste of the Wild when I was searching....I'll have to check it out. Do you feed Wetlands, Pacific Stream or High Prairies? How long have you fed it? Why did you decide to try CORE? Just curious.

I would also like to know about the Wellness CORE. I am going to switch Mandi to it once she finishes the food she has now. I also looked at Innova EVO, but the only place I can get it is really out of the way. ?

I have fed two large bags of High Prairies... It worked so well, I figured I wouldn't mess with it. I don't know what I'll get next. It's so nice to find an affordable grain free food. I only pay $40 for 35# which is an insanely good deal for a grain free food around here.

The CORE was on sale, and so I bought it for training treats.

I have Solid Gold's Barking At The Moon here right now but have not started into it yet. We also have Horizon's Legacy, Innova Evo, Innova Evo RM, Timberwolf Organics Bison, Orijen (just finished the bag a few weeks ago) and Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken.

The only ones that we have already fed are:

Orijen - worked great and dogs loved it
Innova Evo - another winner
Timberwolf Organics - was awesome but they have no chnaged their formulas so I wont be buying any more bags
Nature's Variety Instinct Chicken - good but I'm not crazy about the lower protein levels

So no one has tried Wysong or ZiwiPeak?

OC - I hear you on the protein levels, I like the high protein too, my animals seem to do better on low carb.

Dogs4Life, my guys do too. For highly active dogs, higher fat/protein is a must. For average pet dogs however, it isnt wise to have them so high so the dog isnt utilizing it. Basically dogs use fat like humans use carbs. Great for energy/fuel but what isnt used goes straight to the hips! I've heard that excess, unneeded protein is bad for the liver???? I forget exactly how that goes.... All I know is my dogs have never been better than when I started the feeding I'm on now

I've heard of a condition called fatty liver but not protein induced liver problems, I'd love to learn more if you can find out more.

I'll see what I can dig up for you...it may have nothing to do with the liver, it might be something else completely???
