protien based dry kibble??
I feed my dogs a mix of Timberwolf Organics Wilderness and Merrick Buffalo because of allergies, when I went to buy dog food today,,I noticed a new brand from Merrick, called Before Grain. I bought a small bag for my dogs to sample along with the normal bags I buy. When I got to the check out an employee who was stocking shelves told me that I should not be feeding any of the foods I am buying unless my dogs are in a high active dog sport. I asked way and she said that I am destorying there livers because of the protein in the food. That my dogs are going to die prematurly because of this due to liver failure. She told me I should be feeding Science diet or like brands.
I am hoping this is not true,,I figured with the amount of people here that know dogs really well, ,,,someone might have an opinion on this. My Vet has never brought this concern up to me,,and one of the dogs has been on this type of diet for 8 years.I also feed my show cats a protien based diet by Timberwolf. Any opinions on this would be great!! If you need more info I would be glad to provide it. |

Did you mention to her that dogs are natural carnaviors and don't even have the teath or digestive systems to fully utilize nutrients from grains and such and that most of that stuff ends up on your lawn.
The pure stupidity of people boggles my mind somtimes, dogs could and have lived(for hundreds of thousands of years) their entire lives eating 99% meat only, the same CANNOT be said for grains\carbs they would not even survive. |

I had mentioned that and she was still positive she was right. I spoke to a pet nutritionist yesterday and they said the same thing you did,,my vet also confirmed that the foods are not harming my dogs, which is what I believed about these foods. So I went back to the store yesterday and spoke with the manager and the employee happened to be there,,so I got to tell her that she needs to get better educated on the foods that they sell. I also told them that is a shame that someone who works in the a pet store that sells these foods and raw diets has that opinion on meat in a dogs diet and I wonder how many people she had confinced not to try some great foods because she doesn't know anything about the foods.
She really had nothing to say to me then,,,I also found out that my vet made a visit and had some harsh words to share with the store. Lol |

I just watched a show called"Dogs that changed the world" there's small sled dogs kept with Indians up in Alaska that only get whale blubber and snow their entire lives but they looked happy and healthy to me.
Not that I would condone this kind of diet but it jstu goes to show. |
