You should never give cows milk to dogs. They can't tolerate the lactose well.
You can buy milk that is specifically for puppies and kittens though. It should be in the dog food section of your supermarket or you could try a pet shop. Cass. |

About the only thing regular milk will do at 6 months of age is give your pup the runs.

Yes, cow's milk will probably cause the pup to have diarrhea. If you are looking for a source of dairy to give to him then what works well with mine is cottage cheese. I only give a bit of it once in a while as a treat.

Milk isn't necessarily good for dogs. It's a hormonal liquid produced by a lactating female, and, IMO, no dog needs it after weaning nor is it necessarily nutritious. For one thing, it barely replicates what a puppy would drink from his mother.
Milk for human consumption is not only pasteurized, but usually homogenized as well. For that reason, the milk becomes uniform and does not separate from the whey and other particles. This is barely 'natural' or appropriate for a six month pup. Raw goat's milk should be fine for a pup, though. If you're looking to add additional calcium into your pup's diet (which you should do with MUCH caution if you have a larger breed of dog), I would recommend more dog-saavy foods like *raw* bones (pulverized raw chicken and turkey necks if you're worried about splinters) and eggs. Good luck with your poopsie ! |
