I fed my dog some fried chicken

Help! He just vomit today and is having diarreha. Should I call the vet ASAP or will he get through this. What should i feed him for now, he don't seem like he wants to eat anything. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!

You should stop with the food and water, and call your vet. He/she will tell you exactly what needs to be done.

Were there bones in that fried chicken??? If so, your pup needs to see a vet right away. If a cooked bone splinter got stuck in his throat, stomach or espohagus your pup could easily die within 24 hours.
Does the diarrhea have any blood in it, or is it dark in color? Did the vomit have any dark parts to it, or was it bloody? How long has it been since this meal?
What was he eating prior to the chicken. You can feed your dog a raw diet, go to www.barfworld.com to begin learning how, or you can feed a commercial dry kibble. I recommend Solid Gold Wolf pup or an Eagle Pack brand puppy food.

What kind of dog do you have? How old is it? How much does it weigh?

No there were no bones. His diarreha does not have blood in it and it is brown in color. There was no blood in his vomit either, just the food he ate. I'm afraid to feed him his regular food/treats. His last meal was the chicken from last night. His diet before this was his regular IAMS dry food and treats after his walks. This is a peakinese it is about 8 yrs old and it weights about 20 lbs.

Was the chicken his entire dinner last night? He ate a lot of it? I imagine if it was something his body is not used to, it proved way to rich for the ole system to handle. But when in doubt, call a vet. They can advise you on what to do and if you should bring him in.

I don't think you did anything that bad, but I would also call the vet just to make sure.

Good luck

No dogs can eat people food, heck, it's their food too... It's just possibly that at 8 she's never had anything before. If so, their stomachs kind of get weak. Imagine if you ate the same thing for years on end and then had some chicken... you'd probably feel ill too!
If she's 8 and suddenly not eating, you need to get her to a vet. She may have a medical condition that is inhibiting her appetite. Many sick dogs give up their food, and that is sometimes the only symptom.

I was in the vet's office this week, and the woman before me brought in her Lhaso to see why he had stopped eating and was breathing funny. X-rays showed a mass on the liver double the size of the actual liver. The tumor was inoperable as it has already spread to the lymph nodes. Again, the only signs were breathing heavy and not eating. She was doing both of these because the tumor was taking up much of the space of the lungs and stomach.

He actually wants to eat, just not his food. I gave him a small (tablespoon) of white rice and he wanted more. After he ate the rice he drank some water too. I'm feeling bit better now.

rice is great for a dog's upset stomach. If he'll eat the rice, it is my opinion, that I would let him have some more. It's kind of like soda crackers. Again, I am not a vet... but if it were my dog, from what you've explained, that is what I would do.

It isn't the chicken that made him sick, but it could be the outer layer if it was greasy and breaded. Don't give any fried foods at all. Rice and boiled chicken wont hurt him. You can even mix these (just a small amount) with his dog food.

As far as i know, chicken bones are brittle and can easily form splinters when broken (chewed by dogs).

Only if they are cooked. If they are raw or not cooked, they are part of an excellent and nutritous diet.

When a dog reacts to food I have always given my dogs tummy a rest for the day by no food but always have water available as when they have diahrea they can dehydrate quickly.
If it doesnt settle then its a quick trip to the vet
Oh and I always give my dogs raw chicken bones
