Thumbs up Thumbs Up To Raw Food Store In Vancouver BC

Wow, that's all I can say. I spent about 3 hours in an all Raw pet food store today. I was primarily going up there for a source of RMBs for Chaz and to get his menu straight. The owner of the store has been feeding raw for over a decade and knows her stuff. She asked some details about Chaz, like size, breed, can I feel hips or ribs. Then she wrote out 2 bi-weekly menus for him and percentages for the meats and veggies (i.e.. 80% dark leafy greens & 20% carbs).

She wrote up 2 diets for my 2 cats (one has had struvite crystals, the other is a little overweight) and how to wean them into the raw diet. Just picked up some cranberry extract from a human health food store.

My over-the-fridge freezer is now owned by raw pet food and I had to take some pics of that lol.

I am really impressed walking out of that store and feel empowered to feed my pets correctly on the raw diet.

The store is in North Vancouver, BC (Canada) & called, "In The Raw Pet Food Store"

Here are the pics I took of all the raw pet food in my freezer.

The dog diets are divided into two menus. Chicken carcass can be substituted with: chicken backs, turkey necks, ox tails, or lamb neck. All meals are approximately 400g except tripe which is 600g.
1)
M = Ground Herring (with bones) + veggies
T = tripe (no veggies)
W = chicken carcass + veggies
R = tripe (no veggies)
F = Ground Herring (with bones) + veggies
S = tripe (no veggies)
Sn = chicken carcass + veggies

2)
M = Beef or Buffalo + veggies
T = tripe (no veggies)
W = chicken carcas + veggies
R = tripe (no veggies)
F = Beef or Buffalo + veggies
S = tripe (no veggies)
Sn = chicken carcass + veggies

Cat Menus + Weaning
Week 1
1st 2 days = Add 1 tbsp ground chicken, mix with crushed kibble
Next 5 days = same amount kibble (no crush) + raw but on separate dishes

Week 2
50 g raw in am, 1/4 c. kibble pm

Week 3
Dotty: 100 g raw / day
Mouffy: 120 g raw / day (over 3 weeks reduce to 100 g / day)

Supplements:
Cats: VetriScience Tabby Tab + Salmon Oil (food we're using is already supplemented though so not going to use this)
Dotty: "Cranberry Comfort;" "Sisu" or "Herbal Factors" cranberry
extract

Dog: Kelp = Every other day for 2 weeks, then every third day
EFA Oil = Plant & Fish Oils. Use daily (approx. 1 tsp) - change brands regularly.

It's the husband (the "other" pet)...

My inclination would be to suggest checking very thoroughly with Customs before wasting time and possibly money on a fruitless trip. There's a good chance that raw meat would be prohibited. They don't even like you carrying cooked food across the border, for instance.

On the other hand, they could, if nothing else, provide very thorough advice. The other half was up there for two or three hours.

Plus there are other sights to see in the area.

Oh I'll go for the advice and extra fun....maybe i can mail order through her......we go up to vancouver about 6x a year.....although sometimes I dont make it past Castle Rock,

your right about checking w/ the border, the first time we went over the border post 9-11 they almost held up becuase i didnt have passports for all of my minor children.

I just looked at the guy and said, "Listen, who in their right mind would travel 4 hours in the car to a foreign country and kidnap 4 children, fake US social security cards, .....THESE 4 children..?" He listened to them fighting over some silly toy, rolled his eyes and waved us on........

Well this is who I use for my raw dog food. Fresh Start Retailers

Amore has retailers in WA.
For a little hunting on the web, I found The Great Dog Shoppe in Seattle, WA - maybe that's closer for you.

I'm also part of a Yahoo! Group called rawpaws that helps with this too.

And great story about your kids and the border, lol.
