it doesnt nesicarily have to be "small breed" food. I feed Canidae which is for all life stages and all sizes. Its really small bites so even the smallest of dogs can eat it.

I found solid gold at Pet Supplies Plus, plus a local feed store, they have a nice selection of large breed, small breed, adult dog, ect. I also noticed that Chicken Soup for the Dogs soul had little tiny pieces but wasn't specifically tailored to different dogs, both are in the top list.
Out of the middle list, I know that Nutro which makes Natural Choice and some others makes a small breed and large breed food.
Good luck

Alikins,
I have both my dogs on Innova Evo. My smallest dog is about 3 pounds full grown and I find the bite size of their kibbles perfect for their size. It's also high in protein(meat protein) which in my opinion is great for little dogs since they burn calories a lot faster then larger breeds.

Regular Innova is also bite sized, triangle shaped, and approved for all life stages.

trader joe is now making canned dog food. sufficient water for processing is their first ingredient. i presume this is ok for a wet food? the other ingredients in order are: beef, chicken, textured soy protein product, animal liver. this seem to be all good. i have switched to candidae for the dry food. would trader joe's canned dog food fall in the good or the bad? (trying to think for myself}

Ok, so this is confusing......kazkirkpatrick, you said that more expensive dog food was better, right? So then why is "Bil-Jac" on "The Ugly" list? It is like one of the most expensive kinds of food.......And if its so bad, why?

It's not the price that makes things good or bad, it's the ingredients.

Read the list of ingredients Kaz has worked so hard to provide. It tells you what's good or bad and then look at the ingredients of the dog food you're asking about.

Cass.

Also, where do you buy the ones on the good list, can you buy them at like petsmart or do you have to go to a specialty store?

I haven't been able to find any of them at petsmart. Have you heard of pet extreme? It's a chain like petsmart - not as big - but they carry Canidae for sure. Other than that I have heard others suggesting to go to local feed stores. I'm on a hunt for a closer pet store that sells good food than the pet extreme - its a half an hour drive!

Petssmart carries foods in the middle group, The Natural Choice Line by Nutro is their premium food. Nutro makes a higher end food too that is better than Natural Choice.

Pet Supplies Plus which is a chain store carries Solid Gold and Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul and a few others, but to be honest I have found the best prices at stores that sell horse feed, and farm feed type stuff, and they carry all the top brands of dog food as well.
