Dog Nutritionist?

Does anyone know of a site where you can ask a nutritionist questions?

Or maybe someone here knows the answer.

Ok my mother is insistant on feeding Layla a "large breed puppy food". I told her I was going to feed Layla Canidae (which is an all lifestages food) and she freaked out! Now can someone tell me what the big difference is between a large breed puppies nutritional requirements as to a regular adult dog? I've read that large breed puppies need lower fat, calorie, calcium and phosphorus levels than regular puppies....but regular adult foods do this!

We paid $43 for a 33lb bag of Innova Large Breed Puppy...and I want to know what all the hype is about puppy foods!! All the other AWESOME foods don't carry large breed puppy food, why? Is "LARGE BREED PUPPY FOOD" just a marketing scam? I can understand why smaller breed puppies need higher levels of nutrition than adults, because they mature at such a fast rate. But large breeds mature slowly. I'm so caught up in figuring out WHY I "should" feed puppy food over adult food that it's driving me MAD. I can't see paying that much money for that puppy food!! Plus she's going to be eating a TON of it until she's done growing...we really can't afford to feed something that costs so dang much! We pay $32 for a 40lb bag of Canidae!

Actually it is puppy food in general that is a scam. Large breed food formulas are lower in calories so the growth is more even. They found that large breed puppies raised on regular puppy chow gained weight to fast putting extra weight on the joints at a critical stage of development. Canidae is an excellent food for large breed dogs but then again so is the Innova.
Edit to add that Innova (regular) is an all life stage food as well. That's what I feed my large breed puppy.

That is a beautiful signature!! I can't wait til I have enough posts to get one, LOL. Though I am not even remotely sure how to create it.

Kerriebeth, if you go to http://www.ourdogsonline.com and look in the forum, you can post questions and Mordanna (webmaster of The Dog Food Project) will answer. She has done so much research and is a virtual encyclopedia of feeding dogs! I've picked her brain many times.
