Unhappy Husky Not Eating

Okay. I've had the cutest albino husky/shepard mix for about a year. We adopted him from an animal shelter and other than some allergy problems (See: Vomiting yellow foam LoL) we haven't had any health trouble with him. Lately though he's been licking metal objects and refusing to eat more than a scant mouthful of dog food at a time. I've got a grandmother who likes to sneak him people food (Against my will mind you) and I'm wondering if this might be contributing. The theory thus far is that he's not eating dog food because of the people food. Therefore he's got a minor iron deficiency and that leads to the metal licking. Am I right?

Firstly, may I ask you to describle the licking in a little more detail? He is licking frantically? Is he licking a lot? I ask because this is what my dog does when she has an upset stomach. Vomiting yellow foam can sometimes be cause by having an empty stomach (as it does ion my dog). What type of food is your dog eating? I would tell your grandmother, very respectfully, that she is doing more harm than good right now by giving the dog scraps and until you figure out the problem, would she please stop. I have nothing against people food as long as it is ok for the dog. I give Godiva fruits and veggies all of the time. I have never heard of an iron deficiency causing a dog to lick metal, but I could be wrong. Oh, how long has this been going on? You could try giving a little kaopectate or Pepto, but I would really concider calling your vet to make sure that there isn't some underlying problem.

Is he still drinking water? I agree with ALexis, ask your grandmother to stop the human food. I do believe you are right also. He thinks his diet should be people food so therefore is not going to eat the dog food. As long as he is drinking water I would cut the human food and see if he picks back up the dog food. You may have to wait a couple of days. If he doesn't eat after that then take him to the vet. If he is not drinking water, take him to the vet asap!
As for the licking I really do not have any idea. Perhaps it tastes salty to him?
