You think my dog would like some warm milk. I used to give it to my dog when she was sick. I would put a bit of salt and sugar in it and it would boost her energy. Do u think it would be a good idea to give him some warm milk daily especially in winter so he could stay warm. O another wuestion how do you teach a dog tro be able to run off leash in house and not jump on furniture and come when you call him and teach him how to sit next to you and not move.

I have never given my dogs milk (except for an occasional bit my grandsons' may have left in their cereal bowls
) as I have found that it tends to give them the runs. How old is your pup? You should check and see if there are some puppy classes in your area. They are a great way to not only socialize your puppy but to learn some good basic training methods. Plus they are really alot of fun. After the puppy class session is over (usually 6-8 wks) you can continue on for more advance obedience classes. My 2 love going to class every week. ![]() |

Milk fit for human consumption is not suitable for our canine friends. For one thing, the milk that we drink is entirely different from the milk that a wild dog would find in a lactating animal. Not only is the milk heated to kill microorganisms (pasteurization), but it is also made uniform in consistency (homogenization). Therefore, the fat and cream and whatnot are blended together, causing difficulty for the dog to digest it. And to top that off, milk contains lactose, but our dogs produce insufficient amounts of lactase. The result? A poor pup with diarrhea. A much better alternative to warm milk is room temperature Pedialyte.
I also agree with Poodlesmom. You and your dog need obedience lessons. I think you've gotten confused. Most places charge 80-100$ for SIX lessons, not PER lesson. Your best bet would be to contact either a private trainer for his/her group rates or go to your local humane society and see what they offer. You owe it to your dog to take this step If spending 80$ at one time is too much of a financial burden, most places offer payment plans. Good luck! |

Honestly? I think your dog will be fine without warm milk. Puppy milk contains a lot of nutrients that an elder dog will most likely retain as fat and excess of anything can cause problems. Just provide room temperature water and your dog will be fine. Remember, dogs have fur coats to keep themselves warm. I wouldn't worry about providing warm milk. I only recommended the Pedialyte for when your dog is ill, as a better alternative to sugared and salted cow's milk.
Have you signed up for obedience classes yet??? |

I agree, don't give it milk.
Basically you're just doing it for your own benefit not the dogs. People like the idea of giving their dogs things like that when the dog actually doesn't need it. If you want to keep them warm in winter, buy them a jacket to wear and a nice cosy bed to curl up in. Dogs don't need a warm drink to keep them happy in winter. Oh yeah, and obedience lessons are a must, not a 'well maybe'. Spend the money, it'll be worth it in the end. Cass. |

Dogs drink water not milk and definatly don't be giving your dog sugar and salt they do not need that.... You can give your dog water that chicken was boiled in but don't add anything, just boil the chicken and give your dog the broth. You can also freeze the broth and give tasty icecubes as treats in hot weather...

If you think about animals in the wild they only drink their mothers milk for a short while then it is just water. Saying that why should we feel the need to give them milk if nature never intended it that way?

I give mine milk once in awhile and they have no problems with it. If you want to warm your dog up with something warm other than take a chance on her getting sick then buy canned chicken and beef broth. I use the 99% fat free.

If you are going to give your dog milk, a better bet would be to find some raw goat milk (check a health food store). It's much easier to digest than cow milk. Still, I probably wouldn't give milk period. JMHO
