Unhappy Singed Hair!?!?!?

Last winter ta my grandparents house, kaiyah bumped against the woodstove and singed the hair off his butt. well, its kinda his butt. Its his back(left) leg, just to the left of his butt. It still hasnt grown back. i have to clip the right side so that it is even with the right. Otherwise the hair is like 3 inches lon on the right and only an inch and 1/2 on the left and he looks really dorky!! Anyone have any ideas on how to get the hair to grow back. I already clipped the ends off and got all the singed stuff clipped. It still wont grow back.

If you mean last winter a year ago I dont know what you can do. If the hair was just singed it should have grown back with no problems. The only time I have seen this happen was when there was damage to the skin.

Mitch is right, the hair should have grown back by now unless the skin was actually damaged. You might try fish oil capsules which tends to promote hair growth as well as help the skin but if the problem is actually scar tissue I'm afraid there isn't anything you can do about that.

Yes, Zeus still hasn't grown his hair back on his arm from where the VET left his cast on too tight.. He's will always have a bald spot there. The other VET I took him too for a 2nd opinion said that if the hair root gets any damage or infected that there really isn't much you can do, except if it is immediately after the accident sometimes you can massage the area on a daily basis to encourage regrowth but that didn't even help in Zeus case.

I THINK the area you're talking about is called the "bloomers." Am I correct?

It would make sense what the others say.... if the skin or root/follicle got damaged then the hair probably will never return. THEN AGAIN... the way dogs shed... I wonder if he has shed all the bloomer hair from an entire year ago and if so... then why is the regrowth stunted?

I hope you find your answers... until then...clip away, carefully. lol

Blessings,

Doni

It didnt go all the way to he skin so I know no skin was damaged. The hair used to be about 3 inches long. Now, on that one side, it is about an inch. While the other side is still long. I dont think the roots were damaged as it did not get that close to the skin. I am still brushing it out everyday and clipping the other side to match!!
