To groom, or not to groom
So I have a real dilema here. Chloe is in need of a grooming, but I'm not sure what I should do. If I get her cut in the normal Schnauzer style, she will have to wear sweaters (which she is not real fond of) outside to play. She will also get colder much faster, shortening her much loved romps in the snow. If I don't get her cut she will be much warmer outside, but gets covered from head to toe in snowballs. This is a problem because they cause mats, and she makes a huge mess when she comes back inside. I am taking her in no matter what I decide because she has to have her ears plucked, bathed ect. I just have to decide which way I want to go. What do you fellow dog owners do in the winter time?
Any suggestions/opinions are greatly appreciated! Lindsey |

Giant Schnauzers
|
As an owner of Giant Schnauzers, here is what I do....
I clip them with a different blade....for example, instead of using a #10 on the body, I'll use a #7F, and a #4 on the furnishings. That is on the one with the American coat, which is probably the same as your mini. On my German ones, I strip. Yes, its time consuming, but works wonders for the winter. They don't matt normally, but stripping also aids in the snow not sticking...it just wipes off, or shakes off when they come inside! LOL |

Thanks for the reply! I think I will do what you suggest, it sounds like a good solution. I think it will also help appearance wise as my husband likes her all shaggy but I like a more clean look. Thanks again!

I agree with bigdolover. I have two mini schnauzers and a mini poodle. I use blades that use more hair.

Here, we use a 5# blade on the bodies & a light trim on furnishings.
7# or 8# in the warmer weather. |
