Best collars

My dogs have aspen collars. I'm just wondering what collars do you use? Even the aspens mess up my dogs neck hair and makes it all rough. It even rubbed a bald spot on the front of gracies neck. I'll probaly get lucy a rolled collar. Do these work well for short haired dogs as well.
Gracie has this one

Zoe has this one

Maggie doesn't have aspen she has this one
http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...294967209&Ne=2

Lucy has one that I got at the fair it is similar to maggies just a different color. Any suggestions on new collars?

I just wanted to add that their collars stay on them all the time. i'm paranoid that I will loose them and they wont have a collar on.

I've always used normal nylon flat buckle collars, neither of my shepherds or whippet mix have had any issues with them.

Harley has a nylon collar with a flat buckle - we got it from the vets when he was boarded there (it's actually quite good). He has longish fur on his neck and it doesn't seem to leave it looking flat, and doesn't rub the skin (even when he's been clipped).

Abby has a leather collar which does push up the fur on her neck a bit - she has short fur. I haven't been able to find a nylon collar small enough for her.

Tango has tons of collars. In the winter she weas a rolled leather one (easy on the fur, and yes, good for short coated dogs too), and for most of the summer she wears a lime green nylon one with her name and contact number embroidered. Besides those two, she also has a hemp one from Earth Dog - expensive, but very durable and excellent quality. She has the "sage" one. It's my favourite of all her collars, actually. When you wash it, it comes out looking good as new...just like it did when I first bought it and it's very soft and comfortable. She also has a turquoise one which she wears sometimes in the summer from here (very easy on the fur) and then she has a bunch of other nylon ones with different designs (most are made by Rogz, 3 Dirty Dawgz, and Hamilton). Lol...I have a slight collar obsession.

The bald spot on Gracie's neck could be a sign that she's allergic to nylon. Some dogs are, and good alternatives for them are hemp or leather.

I have a number of collars and harnesses too.

They have rolled leather collars (matching red and tan), the nylon PetsMart harnesses, and a leather harness/lead.

Latte does not wear one until we go out because even the rolled leather collars are hard on his fur. (We have too much snow and he has 3 more months to recover from surgery anyway.)

All three of my girls have Coach doggie collars. Peaches' and Gretchen's are fushia and Cindy Lou has a pink patent leather one with little hearts on it. They stay on all the time because they have their id's on them. However, when we they are on their leashes I use a harness. That way I don't have to worry about them slipping out of them.

Thanks for the suggestions I guess i'll invest in getting them all rolled leather collars. Gracie also has a very thick neck and the collar always sits high up on her neck because of the way she is built.

We use martingale collars (or 1 inch tag collars for every day) from a couple of vendors...always lined with satin to prevent neck rub:

My Yorkies wear the rolled leather that have a St. Francis (protecter of animals) medal with their name and phone number engraved on the back. They have one in pink and one in black each. I don't lead them by the collar, only by the harnesses I make them. If you lead by the collar, the rolled ones would not be a good idea. If you have a small dog, I would not suggest leading by the collar anyway because of their small trechea that could easily be damaged. If you have dog you do lead by the neck, then I would suggest the rolled collar to be used only when not walking them, and a wide comfortable collar for walking.

What if my dogs always walk on a loose leash? They are very well behaved when walking. My dogs always walk by their collar they don't pull so it's not dangerous for them.

I don't believe there is anything wrong in walking a dog with a rolled collar. That's what I use on Tango and it doesn't bother her in the slightest. She doesn't pull on the leash, so there's no reason for it to be uncomfortable. That's just my opinion of course, but there is no difference in her demeanor whether I walk her on a flat collar or a rolled collar.

As far as wlaking a small dog though, I agree with that. My Dachshunds never pull/ed but I still walked them with harnesses just because it is better for them. Though going by your signature, it doesn't look like you have any really small dogs.

Maggie is actually small (boston terrier) but I don't walk her with a harness. I have never found the need to she walks very well with her flat collar. She doesn't pull at all. She actually pulls more with a harness on. I don't like harnesses.

I have Lupine collars (but only martingales which I won't leave on all the time... I'd never leave a collar on that tightens) that they wear when we go out. I show them on rolled leather collars... and Buzz wears a Premier KeepSafe collar while we're gone... Bailey has no collar for a few reasons...

I LOVE my premier collars but... don't like the flat buckle on the regular ones and wouldn't dream of leaving a tightening collar on a dog...

I'm always in the market for a good harness for Latte. He is easy to walk and does well with a loose lead most of the time anyway. Boo needs a head collar -- it is the only way to enable us to walk with a loose lead. A harness on Boo just makes it more comfortable for him to pull on the lead.
