Does it have to be doggie toothpaste?
I've seen tooth paste mentioned briefly in another post, but what I wanted to know is why can't we use Sensitive Toothpaste on dogs? Will it hurt them? Is doggie paste expensive and can I buy it in a regular Pet or Dept Store? I think it's time my two pooches got some extra oral hygiene on top of their bones, hides and biscuts. Thanks.

Human toothepaste should not be used on dogs--has ingredients that aren't good for them, one being fluoride. (I don't even use a fluoride toothepaste on myself). Dog paste is generally pretty cheap. You can find it at a local pet store.

Along with dogs not having fluoride toothpaste never has been made to be ingested, it's made to be spit out and not swallowed and just think how your stomach would feel if you swallowed a couple mouthfuls of that minty stuff. ** shudders** Using human toothpaste will do nothing but make your dog very ill.

Also human toothpaste is designed to froth up... not good for the dogs lol.
Having said that I use a natural one for my girls made by neways. It has no nasties in it at all. I agree with Gaddy flouride is POISON |

Thanks for fillling me in on this. To be on the safe side, I will buy the doggie paste. I guess the non flouride toothpaste still has other ingredients in it, detrimental to dogs. Thanks again for the advice. I hope Wal-Mart sells doggie paste, since it is pretty pricey in comparrison. Oh well, our babies are worth it.

I bought a kit with a finger brush, oral brush with handle and the doggie paste for $5.95 cdn . A single tube of the same size doggie paste costs $7.97 without the brushes, so what's up with that. I'm better off buying the kit, unless this is a short term promotion of some sort. I got the regular, but I noticed they had beef flavored also. I hate to see my finger go with it. LOL

Doggie toothpaste sure is more expensive then ours. And yes.... Walmart does sell it and its usually cheaper then in a pet store.
I have bought a chicken and a beef flavored toothpaste before for my dog. She liked it, but the smell made me gag ![]() I am using one made by FourPaws called Pet Dental.... but guess what guys??? It has fluoride in it (says its veterinarian approved). Doesn't foam up though. |

Wolp, fluoride???? Interesting, isn't that the ingredient we are trying to avoid? I bought some Smart Groom toothpaste at WalMart. It doesn't have any ingredients listed that I can see, not on the tube or on the package. It is Vanilla flavour. They should have some ingredients listed somewhere, but they don't. Does anyone know if this product contains fluoride?
