Dog Shedding...

My Aries is a hairy dog! She sheds all the time. I brush her constantly, but are there any particular brushes or anything any one can suggest to bring down the shedding on furniture?

I can't remember what type of dog she is...an Aussie mix, right? Depending on her coat type you may be able to try out a Furminater. I've heard they work WONDERS on thick/double coated breeds (like Huskies, for example). If you don't want to spend that much, however, a regular undercoat rake should help take out some of that extra fur. That is what I use on Chloe.

A healthy coat brought about by a good diet should also help reduce shedding a bit.

She is an American Eskimo X Sheltie cross. Whats a Furminator? Shes on a good diet and has a very healthy coat and skin. Just a natural shedder

A Furminator is an expensive ($40) brush that does an AMAZING job getting out dead undercoat and loose fur. Here is a link to their website: FURminator

I am trying this product called showstopper, some of the reviews say it helps with sheding among other things.

I like the FURminator myself. I use it on my Betty. As for Nell, I only use it on her chest and legs, I find it doesn't work so well for her on her back, she's a rough coat. Now for Chloe, I thought it would be great, but don't like using it on her long coat. I'd rather brush her. So it all depends on the dogs coat as to whether the FURminator is a good idea. With the American Eskino/Sheltie cross, if it's not a long rough coat, then it will do very well.

Showstopper is a powder just put on their food, the love it smells like beef to me.

I found it jeffers website. Its made from humane grade ind.

I will say this my toy poodle will hardly eat dry when she just eats her can and little bit of dry she ate
her bowl of food just sucked it down when I put this stuff on it.

Here is web address, the review page one lady said that her German Shep. shedding was 90% better.

I use the furminator also. Radar shed's like crazy ALL the time, so I keep him brushed out with the furminator. You wouldnt believe the difference. I really recommend it.

If it's excess shedding then it could be from the lack of Omega fatty acids in the diet. You can buy the NOW Super Omega 3-6-9 in gel caps at vitamin stores. It's what I give my own girls. Another product is called Shed-Stop. It's a pet product and sold in most pet stores.

by what you have said it sounds like the furminator would work well on her. her coat isnt rough, its about a med-long length and soft, she feels kinda like a long haired cat. its not excessive shedding really. i would say its just average for a light colored dog to get her white hair all over my dark clothes lol! thanks all! im watching a furminator on ebay now that i think ill buy.

The FURminator sounds like it will work for your dog. Now my question for calgal, if giving the NOW Super Omega 3-6-9, how do you know how much to give each dog?

For the med. to large dogs I'd give one capsule each day. My girls are 8,7 & 4 pounds. They share one capsule a day.
