Grooming and Petco.....

For those of you groomers and those that groom their own dogs, and shop at Petco, what shampoo do you recommend getting? Should I be getting 2 different shampoos for Nell and Chloe? Betty is so easy to maintain, but would like to find what would be a good product for Nell and Chloe, especially Chloe with her heavy coat. And we don't have many other places other than places like Walmart, Target, etc, but do most of my dog shopping at Petco. What do you recommend?

If she has a typical coat (not oily, flaky, etc.), I would just use a basic shampoo and conditioner.

In at work we use the Crazy Dog Shampoo....I LOVE it. Great for any type of dog, smells wonderful, and cleans extremely well. We dilute it and it still works wonders. In fact, I think it is easier to use when you do dilute it. You can purchase it at Petco or online from another retailer:
Crazy Dog Shampoo - Groomers.com

As for a conditioner, this is what we use in at work, and again, I LOVE it. Smells wonderful and leaves the coat nice and soft:
Oster Strawberry DermaSilk Conditioner - Dog Grooming - Dog Conditioner -

The main thing with a thick coated breed is you need to make sure you rinse her COMPLETELY. I find it very hard to do with even just Chloe's type of hair using a bucket or a shower head. If you have a shower head with a very firm spray it should do okay.

Cool... Her coat seems to be just a little on the oily side, but it's really good. After a couple weeks, her hair around the back end, ears, belly, legs, seems to stick together at the ends, giving the oily look, but because I brush her regularly, she does not have mats, and doesn't get them. hehe, can you believe that? A GUY that brushes his dogs regularly? lol. When I first got her, I thought, oh, I'm in for a lot of work with a sheltie, lol. But it's really not that bad. She's really easy to take care of.

As for the other dogs, I give Betty a bath maybe once every 5-6 months, and even then, she really doesn't need it. Not dirty at all, doesn't stink, and coat looks great, and she's happy. But she does wish I would do it more, as she LOVES baths, lol. Now for Nell, she's a little stiff at first, but once I start wetting her down, she eases up and starts giving kisses, and moves around whenever I ask her. And she's like Betty as well, loves the towel rub down afterwards.

Thanks again for the info. Going to have to check on the Crazy Dog. Because it's got conditioner in it, do I still need conditioner? Seems like it would defeat the purpose, as the Crazy Dog would have one scent, then the conditioner would be another scent.

I just got back and got the FURminator DeShedding Shampoo to use when they really start shedding. I also got the Crazy Dog Pina Colada Shampoo, they didn't have any of the others. I really wanted the Rainforest one. Will see if they get it in for the next time, lol.

I did take the girls shopping with me too, except Betty. Didn't want any problems. They did very well, then guess where we stopped? DOGWISE, lol. It's a money trap, lol. I got the book, The Rally Course Book. Exactly what I was looking for. And they loved the girls too, got along great with all their dogs they have there. And it was suprising to see Nell warm up so fast to them. She really needs the socializing with people, so I can get her in the ring and can let the judge touch her in the Stand For Exam. Chloe has no problems with that part, lol.

Glad you had a nice outing!

I only use the conditioner when I have a dog that is really matted has really dry fur as an extra "ump". I use it on Chloe's rear leg fuzz to help me get the tangles out easier.

Let me know how that deshedding shampoo works for you! It has always interested me, but I wasn't sure how it would do.

Store? hehehe... They aren't a store. They are a warehouse that is open to the public. It's not like walking into a bood store or anything, all the books are stacked on the warehouse shelves and you can walk through their warehouse and get what you want, and then pay for it. Saves on shipping. They moved to a new building, which they own now. They were renting before. And it's even closer to me now, lol. I would say, maybe a half mile or just a little more, lol. And only 3 blocks from where I work, lol.

Will let you know. It's kind of spendy as well, quite a bit more than some of the other shampoos. Will use it on Betty next time I wash her, I just might do it this week to try it. lol

Well, Chloe's fur is so soft, lol. And she smells great. That Crazy Dog shampoo is awsome, love it. Just wished they had the Rainforest scent, heard that one is really good smelling. She no longer looks oily either, she was getting to where her hair was starting to look flat due to the oils and petting, but now she's so soft and fluffy, and looks great.

I'm glad the shampoo worked out for you! We used the Rainforest scent maybe once and I liked it. My favorites are Cherry and Pina Coloda, though. Not a huge fan of the Green Apple or Baby Powder, but that is just me.

Crazy Dog also makes spritz sprays for detangling/shining up/smelling good. I personally think it'd be nice to have for inbetween bathings. But since I can get my dogs professionally done for free, I haven't made the effort to go out and buy some. LOL

hehehe, I want to get the Rainforest and the Baby Powder. I'm not a real big fan of Cherry. But the Pina Colada is really nice. I like it alot. Not sure if I would like the Green Apple either. I might even go for the Very Berry too.

We use the Crazy Dog detangling spray (baby powder scent--I love it ), and it works well on Missie. I've had it literally for YEARS, as we don't use it regularly anymore. lol! Better food=better coat, and using conditioner means I don't need it so much. I can't actually contribute to the post's question beyond that... ;-D Hehe!
