Question Flea bath help....

I was just wondering how young is to young to give a puppy a bath with flea shampoo.. I found a flea on Mia earlier. And I really don't won't to get infested with them . Do you think it will be ok to give her a bath with flea shampoo that keeps the fleas away If I dulute it a little more than normal ?She had been scratching til I got the flea off. I'm afraid of her being allergic to fleas..

Check the instructions on the flea shampoo, it should say if it's okay for puppies. There's also shampoos especially formulated for puppies, you can check around if there's one available as a flea shampoo.

My friend's Chihuahuas got fleas, and her little female was ony about 9 weeks old. We called the vet and he said that diluting it would *help*, but since it isn't as potent it's not as effective.

Just scrub her 'til she's squeaky clean and then it could help to put some lightweight conditioner on her, since the soap would probably dry out her skin.

AARGGG My yard is infested with fleas! I went out in my socks and when I looked down I had hundreds of them on my socks! They are jumping on us in the house and I found some on Bailey too. She just had her advantix dose a few days ago but it isn't working very well this time. I bought a flea repellent spray and put some of that on her but I am afraid of mixing medications with the advantix. I sprayed a whole bottle of it on the carpet and furniture too. Little Paws, what is seven dust? Does it repel fleas or kill them? I have been wearing out my vacuum cleaner trying to get the little *bleeps* out of the carpet and I changed all the bedding. I gave Bailey another bath today and 10 minutes late I found another one on her! I can't wait until winter! We didn't have this problem last summer!

Ewwwwwww!!!!

I'd probably fall over in a faint if I saw that. LOL. I moved to Nevada 16 years ago, and have not seen a flea here in all those years. I don't do well with bugs, I'd come out of my skin if I saw all that. LOL

Your telling me! I have been scouring the internet trying to find a remedy to get rid of them. I come from the California desert and we never had fleas there either. I have lived here in Washington for almost 4 years and I never noticed fleas. Now this is my first full summer with Bailey and the fleas are everywhere! All of my animals get their Advantage every month. I don't know what caused these little buggers to come in my house! It has been a dry summer too! Carrie, are fleas always bad in Washington and I just never noticed before?
I guess all I can do is vacuum like crazy and keep spraying repellent on the carpet. Did you know fleas can cause tapeworms????? And they lay their eggs in the carpet??????????? I want to try dynomite next!

Waaaaaaaaaaa

Little Paws, I cant find the dust you talk about on the internet. Does it get rid of the fleas? Is it safe for the doggies? I am going to call an exterminator tomorrow to see about a safe method to get rid of them.

Barrett its Lil'Paws..
And Yes Barrett, it is completely safe for doggie..Its called Sevin dust I think the one I have is Sevin-5 dust..It comes in different types..Go to your local garden store or if you prefer Wal-mart. Most people use it for plants. Just read the general directions for use info.. People even dust there animals with it if they are really bad..

Barrett, I just found this info. on Sevin dust I thought I'd pass the link on to ya' http://www.gardening123.com/producti...in/default.asp

Yeah, I'll second that Sevin dust works. I grew up on a farm and we used it all the time. It's inexpensive and works. I was actually thinking about going to get some to sprinkle on our little "lawn" this evening.

Are you sure that it is ok around animals? It is a toxin and not just a repelant. We used it on our veggie garden but everything had to be washed very well because you would not want to ingest it.

We've had animals outside all my life and never had trouble with it. But then, I've never read the back to verify it either. I'll have to do that to make sure.

Ahhh, I was spelling it wrong. I will call my vet tomorrow to see what they say about exposure to dogs Since Bailey eats grass all the time. I need to do something, it is out of control! I read on the internet to take a cookie pan and fill it with soapy water and place it on the carpet. Then put a light bulb right over it and leave it on all night. The fleas will jump to the light and jump into the water and drown. I did this last night and caught about 30 fleas! *shiver* YUCK!
I also sprayed all the bedding and sheets and mattresses and dog beds in the whole house with flea repellent. I vacuumed the entire house again and put a few pieces of cut up flea coller in the dirt container to kill the fleas that I vacuum up before they can jump out of the container again, then I put the vacuum cleaner outside over night.
I read that I can sprinkle Borax on the carpet and use a broom to push it all the way down deep. The internet said it won't harm pets and it will kill the fleas and eggs (if they laid any yet) Then after a day I can vacuum it all out again. The big part is to get the little *bleeps* out of the yard though. If I can't get them out of the grass we will just keep getting them in the house again.

For infestation in the house the best thing is a bug bomb (foggers). Remove yourself, the dog, and all dog toys and your toothbrush form the house. Open all cabinets, drawers, and interior doors. You will need 1 can for every 500 or so square feet (this can be variable depending on the brand). Set them off and leave. While the house is uninhabitable (2-4 hours depending on the brand, the longer the better) bathe the animals with a flea shampoo and treat with program, avdantage, frontline or other flea killer repelant. When you can go back in you will need to wash all linens, doggy beds, dishes, silverware, cookware and the like to remove the residues.

They also have foggers/bug bombs you can use in yard. We use both the indoor and outdoor varities about once every 3 months as prevention. And as long as you wait the specified time and clean appropriately afterward there is no danger to you or you pet. The toxin only stays active for the time you are required to stay out of the house, after that it becomes inert.
