White coats
i have a white doberman... He is an awesome addition to our family... but i want to know what i can use that wont be harmful to his delicate skin but also keep it shiny white. I want him really shiny... his fur is so soft now. i want to keep it that way as well as very shiny...
i heard about Nova pearls with sulfuric acid... a fawn and blue dobie breeder uses it but i need more input before i really decide. Thanks |

Ive never tryed any of the "whitening" stuff on Kino.
I use Cloud Star shampoo and conditioner. Hes usually very white, shiney and soft- he played outside a lot today though so hes not as shiney. Still very white and soft though. |

The DPCA has what is called Operation White out... because the believe that all white dogs are albino they dont want any bred anymore... so they are trying to make all owners stop breeding white dobermans... personally they are some of the most grogeous dobermans ever... and I do not affilate at this time with the DPCA though the AKC will allow white dobies.. the DPCA refuses to accept them

Im always afraid the whitening ones are too harsh for their skin. Kino really does have sensative skin, you just cant see it due to all his hair. Your whity has short hair so you can actually see his skin.
Isnt sulfuric acid that stuff we played with in chem class that would eat through things? See I could never bring myself to put that on my dog, even if it is diluted. But Im wierd like that. A lot of whitening shampoos have bleach in them, that I wont do either.... |

I've never used whitening shampoo on Jesse, I was worried about any kind of 'bleach' as well, and unless I've really slacked off and not given him a bath for ages (I only bath him once a month normally...less in winter) he's always snowy white.
So normal shampoo works fine for him. I do make sure he's completely dry before I allow him to go outside though, I find his tail (because he has long hair, his tail hair is so long it can actually drag along the ground) tends to yellow if I don't dry him completely before I allow him out (gotta keep it cut too ). I have a sable merle collie and we had hard water. It was turning his white collar and feet to a yellow color. *lol* I had a heck of a time tracking things down to use. I did however find a wonderful human shampoo that works wonderfully to whiten the coat.
You'll wanna look for a shampoo with bluing in it. That is what whitens the coat to a brilliant white. It's often found in Laundry detergent as well. What I use is Clairol Shimmering Lights. It's a purple shampoo but don't worry it won't make your dog purple. Use luke warm water with it. Its a shampoo used for women with grey hair, it's used to remove the build up of hard water and restore the white color. Kody's not had a reaction to it, other then people stopping us and going,'wow...he's SO white....how do you keep him so clean!?' In a pinch you could also use a product by Hartz. I dislike the company so usualy steer clear of them. But they do have a shampoo with bluing in it for white coats and it works just the same as the Shimmering Lights. You can also find more exspensive shampoos on various show supply sites. But, I have found the Shimmering lights works wonderfully and is much cheaper. Not to mention easier to come by. As for keeping the coat soft. Might look into a conditioner to help keep the coat soft. Used after a good shampooing or when you groom. I'd also look into what your feeding as well. Because without the essential oils and vitamins to help nurish the skin and coat from within no amount of shampoo will help. Not that what you feed is bad, I've no clue what you feed. Just stating that there are usually the inside and the outside to consider when talking about coat care. :P Sincerely, Cinthia |

We use White Lightening shampoo on Avalanche and for his feet use E-Z Groom Crystal White Enzyme Shampoo. Both are supposed to be not harmful to the skin, and so far that has been true. He's had problems in the past with the more commercial shampoos (like from retail stores). We also spray him with Avon Skin So Soft, and that helps his skin, coat, and repels mosquitos and other annoyances.
