I have a friend with Labs and none of her dogs has ever had a bath with shampoo. They swim in the lake and get hosed once in a while.I have Rottweilers who sleep with me and I show them. They get a bath once or twice a year.Washing too much can dry out the skin.

Bathing Dogs
I give my two Cockerspaniels a bath once a week in the summer just to keep them clean and cool. I just make you I use very mild shampoo. I am trying out a new Shampoo this week that is supposed to be great will let you know if its good. My boys hate bath night. I also wash their face everynight and do ear checks just like you would with a child. This way we prevent nasty Cocker ear problems since we have had them in the past. We groom them every month and a half in the warm weather and let them grow in for the winter. We have a grromer who comes into the house and this way its less stressful for them.

I recently got a 3 month old Malti Poo and have given her a bath since i got her. Its almost been a week and Im tempted to bathe her again b/c she smells ... not much, but just enough that i notice it when im holding her. I think its mostly from the butt area and 'fecal matter'. I want to bathe her once a week but will that dry her out? esp since i use a dryer to dry her off.
Also, I use wet wipes to clean her butt area about every other time she pottys b/c i dont want that smell (or residue) on the furniture. Is that bad? will that dry out her skin in that area? |

There seems to be a general rule of thumb to try to not do it more than every 2 weeks. Or else their skin and coat will dry out.
But if their dirty or stinky or otherwise "unclean" you want to bathe them. Some dogs take longer than others to just be DIRTY. Personally, I'm struggling to make it to the 2 week mark before Jackie turns herself into a ball of mud playing/digging in the yard. |

As of this very moment Rexie gets a bath 2-3 times a week. But thats due to extenuating circumstances. Usually she gets a bath every couple months. She doesnt ever get doggy odor, she just gathers up dirt!
Cooper gets a bath about once a month, sometimes twice in the summer (rain and mud) because he loooooves to stink. Its what he is good at. |

Whenever my dogs get that "wet dog smell" and its not raining is when we give them a bath. Like this weekend they stink so we are giving them baths. The corgi's last bath was in May and when we got frank we gave him a bath. so yeah. hope this helps.

Well due to me having the bright idea to pick a WHITE dog Charlie looks dirty very easily. i try not to bath him too much so i'd say on average he will get a bath every 2-3 weeks. Depending if we have been the park where all the lovely muddy puddles are or just gone for walks locally lol. i do worry about him drying out though but he seems ok for the moment.

Once a year...maybe. Or if they get really dirty or roll in poo or something. Baby wipes keep them fresh between baths as well as regular brushing. Fortunately greyhounds rarely get doggy odor

We usually bathe our dogs once a month. Rusty starts to smell really bad by that time. He is a longhaired Chi so his grooming needs are different from a shorthaired chi. Buck doesn't really smell but he does get dirty.
