I give casey a bath every 2 months. In between those months i just hose him down if he gets alittle itchy and that's about it. Then he gets his full bath after 2 months unless he gets dirty by playing in the dirt or something...

WEll needless to say this worked and what I started to notice was the nice natural lanoline from his skin started to come out and I LOVE THAT SMELL. I used to smell right between Pepper's Ears and just be right with the world. All his problems cleared up and he was so mad at me for bathing him all the time. ![]() |

My basenji rarely gets bathed... She got a bath about a month ago, but it had been 18 mos since her last one. Then again, she's the kind of dog that avoids mud puddles on her own.
My new cattledog hasn't been bathed since I got her at the end of March. Every time she gets dirty, I just let the mud dry and then brush her. My basenji sleeps with me and the cattledog has AM cuddle privileges. I do spend about 10 minutes brushing them a few times a week though. I love zoom grooms for their coats. |

Harley and Dozer get a bath about once a month or so--BUT yes you do have to watch it sometimes as giving them a bath often can dry out there skin--depending on what shampoo you use....I take mine to the clinic with me and they get weight, toenails,ag's, and bath done all at once.

Schumi, my cocker, goes to the groomer every 6 - 8 weeks for a bath and clip. He's a short-haired dog in a long-haired dog's body and hates to be brushed and messed with. Shaving him suits him just fine and we're happy too
![]() T-Bone, the dobie, rarely needs a bath. Every 3 months or so, but he needs to be wiped down with a damp rag every week or so to help his coat stay shiny and get the dust off. Of course, if either one gets in the mud, it's a whole nother story ![]() |

My dogs (both small, one is a Chihuahua) get a bath every couple of months. They don't necessarily need a bath so often as they need to keep their natural coat oils, and they don't spend every second of the day outside in the dirt.
I work at a dog grooming salon and some of the dogs are real regulars, coming in every 1 or 2 weeks. |

Depends on the dog and the amount of nastiness they pick up(yes...nastiness :P).
My dog is a hound mixed with a pit so he has short hair(about 1 and 1/2 inches worth). Some areas have even shorter hair. He gets out a lot and generally keeps himself clean. The only time that he gets dirty outside is after it rains he will rub his face in the mud then start rolling around in it. He gets quite messy so I hose him off outside, run him into the bathtub and use the showerhead(the moving ones that you can take off, etc) to shampoo him. I usually end up giving him a bath once a month. I always bathe him a day before his flea/tick med's because I want him clean before he gets it. It's waterproof(because it goes into the oil glands and secretes in the oil), but I generally like him to not get wet because it can wash off if you don't wait a few days. He is quite oily for some reason. I've talked to the vet about this and dogs are much like humans. Some humans secrete more oil than others. That's why some teens/adults get acne more than others. Even then he gets a bath AT MOST twice a month, but rarely twice a month. Always bathe your dog if they get dirty...that's pretty obvious. Not only can they make your house a mess but you never know what they roll around in outside. Edit: Also there are many kinds of shampoo. Some of them are meant to help dry skin while others aren't specially formulated for it. When a person takes a shower they are not only getting clean but they're ridding their skin of oil. When you use hot water(like most people do) it hastens this process and a long hot shower can dry out your skin. Same thing for a dog. Hot water can dry out their skin so use lukewarm water(not cold though...that can scare the dog) and use a good shampoo. Always be sure to read reviews of any shampoo you use beforehand. There are some products that can harm other animals that are used in the flea/tick shampoos. |

River got his first bath for 5 months on the weekend
I couldn't believe it had been that long. I'm feeling kinda slack but really happy he didn't have any noticeable dog odour to him - although maybe that's just because I've gotten used to the way he smells ![]() |

I usually bath my dogs around every 2 months, unless they get really dirty while playing outside or something of the like.... an example would be when it rains, and my boy Rio just LOVES to go roll around in the mudd puddles. He's just a really silly boy lol. Then, he'll get a bath right away lol! Otherwise, I try to keep bathing to an every 2 months timeline.
