About a week ago, I shampooed my buff cockapoo with whitening shampoo. Today, my husband noticed that she has a pink tail and quite a lot of pink on her backside. This was not there after her bath. I checked it out, and it doesn't appear that she rubbed against something, because the color is coming from near the root. Could this have been caused by the whitening shampoo?

Humm, never hear of whitening shampoo to discolor a dog before. Plus the whitening shampoo is normally blue in color. I agree with rmci, dogs do get discolored coat from their saliva though it's more of a rusty color then pink.
How old is your dog? It could be that she's changing into her adult coat, which would show more by the root base. Some coat colors, like apricot, sort of gives a pinkish hue. Even some dogs that go though moments of stress can sometimes change coat colors. I've seen that happen to some poodles before. |

Maggie is buff in color and is now a year and a half old. I think she has her adult coat in??? She does get the tear stains under her eyes which varies from pink to a brown or burgundy. I can't wash this out. When we bought this little cockapoo from a breeder, I had no idea she would end up looking mostly poodle. In fact, she looks more like a purebred poodle, than she does a cockapoo. Up til now, she never had the pink anywhere else, other than on the fur under the corners of her eyes
I will try and wash her out and see if that helps to take away the discoloration from her backside and tail. I hope it doesn't remain because she looks like someone spilled a glass of pink Kool Aid on her. Thanks for the replies. |

If it's from saliva and therefore she's licking those spots a lot, I'd take her to the vet and let them know (or at least ring them if you don't want to take her in right away). They should be able to tel you if anything is wrong and what the 'pink' really is.

Most whitners are blue or purple. I use a purple whitner and if I dont dilute it, it does turn the dog a little purple, but it washes right out.
I would think that she is chewing that area and its saliva stains, unless she indeed got into something. Having a pink dog isnt so bad tho! Ive colored my Standard Poodle with pink Kool-Aid and he just loves the attention he gets from passer bys! |
