lost hair due to flea remover?

I posted a thread just a few days ago regarding using a flea remover for my 4 month old Maltipoo. My concern about it is a little different this time.... when i used the product on him (its called Bio Spot that i got at my local pet store) the hair in the area that I put it on got all flat and thin-looking so I thought it would come back within a day or two.
Well, its been about 4 days and I just realized that he actually lost hair in that area! There's a defined line on where that hair was... I put 2 and 2 together and realized that the little chunks of hair I've seen twice in his pen is the hair that he probably lost. (when i first saw it I was a little confused but didnt think anything of it... he does not shed in that amount at all b/c he has mostly Maltese hair).
I feel bad for giving him a bald spot Not that its super obvious though (thankfully) but the fact that this even happened upset me. Coudl the product have been too strong for him? will his hair grow back? and why is he still itching a little bit if this product was supposed to prevent that?
Other than the lost hair and itching, he's okay. More than anythign Im just upset that this happened. I would appreciate any advice, as well as tips on what's a good flea remover that is good. Thanks in advance

He's probably itching because of this product. I use Frontline with no problems.

The itching is more then likely he or she is allergic to the fleas ( my dog is and has lost most of her hair where the fleas have been biting her ). I've found a product called Adam's that works wonders on getting rid of the fleas. I use just the shampoo, I even use a few drops in our carpet shampooer and I've gotten rid of the fleas. Her hair is slowly growing back in. I'd give this product a try.

Pet store flea and worm products are nothing but a waste of money. I know vets are more expencive but they are the best people to advise on products of this nature.Plus if anything goes wrong the vets know how to treat the problem. I give my dogs and cats garlic tablets and I have had no ticks or fleas in my house for over 9 years.
Your dog could be alergic to one of the chemicals in the stuff you used.I would infuture go to the vets and get some front line. They do a spot on one and a pump spray and it not only deals with fleas but ticks and any other nastys.

Thanks for the suggestions and tips. That really helps.
My only other question in regards to this, is the fact that he's still itching a sign that the flea remover didn't work? He gets his shots next week so I can start walking him outside. Im afraid that if the flea remover didnt work then he wont be as protected being outside and I know i have to wait one month before I use flea remover again.
Is it still ok to walk him anyway? And will washing him with flea removal shampoo help for the meantime?
Thanks again

When I worked at the Humane Society we had to apply Advantage to all the cats monthly. One cat lost her fur in the area I applied the Advantage strangely. The vet said it was just a reaction to the topical flea protection. The fur grew back and when treated again she again lost that small patch of fur. Only cat I'd ever seen react that way. It was between her shoulderblades and she couldn't reach there to lick the fur off and her skin never looked irritated. She just always lost a dime sized amount of fur.
