Incontinent Problem

Hi everyone,
I have a 5 yr old lab, Pella, that has had an incontinent problem since about a year old. She has a slight problem with urine leakage while she is laying down or sleeping, most of the time I don't think she knows it happens. It is just a small amount and usually happens early evening. It has nothing to do with her not being able to go outside, it just happens.
She has been taking Proin 50, and she started out at 1 tablet aday and is up to 2 tablets aday. They work great.
My concern is, it seems she will be on them the rest of her life. Is anyone familar with this problem and are there other alternatives to use other then the Proin.
I think the problem came about for her spaying surgery, she was fine before that. If she has to take these the rest of her life that is fine I guess, I just wondering will there be a side effect of this drug after years of use.
Thanks ahead of time for any views.
Mare

i don't know of any longterm side effects. i've done some cursory googling in the past and didn't come up with anything. i have a spayed female on it as well as a neutered male (somehow i got blessed with leaky dogs)

you might want to check out the vetinfo site. lots of good information there.
