Another "smart" product from Greenies?
While I was at the pet store today checking out Innova EVO (and yes, they did have sample bags :P ) and the owner gave me a bunch of samples of treats and whatever. (I heart Global Pet Food!)
Anyways, they gave me this sample called "Hip Chips" from the makers of Greenies. Big red flags waving there, considering the track record that Greenies have. Has anyone heard of these? They do have a warning on them, saying that they're for small dogs under 50lbs. I've personally never heard of them, but not too sure if I'll give them to Gizmo if they're the same as greenies. |

I'm with Jamila. The company hasn't pulled greenies from the shelves so I have no intention of supporting them by buying any of their products.

I have to think the company who makes the greenies has had more than enough letters from folks who are telling them about their horror stories on what greenies has done for their dogs, so it's obvious they don't care by the simple fact they still sell them, so I will never buy a product put out by that company again either.

2pups622 I'm not trying to start any arguments but have you really read the reports on Greenies? They aren't 100% or even 90% digestable. I could watch my dog eat one and it would make no difference if I thought he/she had eaten it all properly. Meanwhile in my kids tummy/intestines Greenies wouldn't be digesting and would be causing harm that Im not aware about.
Gosh did that even make sense? I guess what I'm saying is Greenies could be eaten properly by the dog but still clog up the intestines and cause problems or death. Peronally I would never support a company that take no repsonsiblity for the deaths thier products have and continue to cause. okay rant over... all this is JMO |

Greenies isn't the only dangerous chew treat out there. How many obstructions/deaths have there been with rawhide, yet every store stocks and sells them? Not to mention how 90% of them are cured with chemicals I wouldn't feed to my worst enemy. :P Yet people toss them to their dogs every day. The 'average' pet owner does little research on what they give their dogs. If the pet store sells it, then, it must be safe. If only that was true.
Will greenies ever be pulled from stores shelves? Doubtful, if they haven't pulled rawhide and various other harmful chews. Really the only thing you can do is research what you give your dog and make smart choices about what you do give them. Some feed rawhide or greenies without a problem, and their dogs love them. While others feed it one time and it causes problems for their dog. Depends on what risks your willing to take. But even then, life has a way of making things happen, if it's not rawhide or greenies it's a sock, or something else totally off the wall that they happen to find. Cinthia |

I agree 100% Odetoadream! Rawhide products are the #1 killer of all chewy products, but I suppose as long as there are uneducated folks about these products, the companies will continue selling with no regard to the dogs. The bottom line with ANY company selling a product is only about the $, not about any health concerns even when facts are put in their faces. So sad. So, it's up to all of us to at least get the word out with what we know and try to save some pets. Of course there will always be someone who will not agree, but that should not stop us from trying because there are lots more folks who will.

truth is that there are so many money hungry people in the world that have noooooo scruples and are happy to sell anything to a gullible person.
Most of us that love our dogs are always ready to buy something we are told is good for them. I wish we could stop it but the only thing we can all do is to inform people of the danger then leave it up to them. If no one buys the product then it will stop being produced |

It's funny (not like "ha ha ha" funny) but I was wandering around Petsmart today, and while they're so great with allowing animals into the stores and whatnot, I really took a good look at their selection, and there's certainly not alot of good products there, at least not in my local store.
Their main dog foods are Science Diet, Eukanuba and Nutro (although nutro isn't that bad). There's nearly an entire wall dedicated to rawhide chews, and another half wall devoted to the Greenies. I don't seriously wonder, because i know it's all about the money, but I get to thinking as to why they would promote this stuff if it's so harmful to the animals. Eh... live and learn. Knowledge is power, that's for sure. I won't be feeding Gizmo the Hip Chips, but it's really too bad that there isn't as good of an edible chew out there. I haven't had much sucess with the nylabone edibles either. He loves them, but ends up throwing them up, so there's no point in even giving them to him. Looks like Kongs it is! Although he doesn't like peanut butter! Can you imagine? The most simple chew treat that I can give him, and he looks at the peanut butter and looks at me like ".... you're kidding.... right????" lol |

All they need is for a couple of people to get together and sue them over the death or damage to their dogs.
I'm not the kind of person who agrees with sueing people over every little thing, but something like this I'm right behind. It may be the only way the company will listen. Cass. |

Now I know my dog is a dog, and in reality NOTHING is safe to anyone(human and dog alike). While I dont treat Axa with kid gloves, I would not give her anything that I knew has caused dogs problems in the past(meaning fatalities and what not). Axa has only had one Greenie in her life and I will not be giving her any more. As for the "hip chips", if a company intentionally sells a product they KNOW will seriously harm the consumer(dog) why would I trust them with any other product?
I'll pass on Greenie products and stick to my Raw Bones... |

Your don't doesn't like peanut butter!
I give Rocky Booda Bones which is a rawhide alternative. I believe they are digestable. I have not read anything negative so far. I also give him Nylabone Healthy Eddibles. Lately he has been chewing on a Bully Stick, which he loves. You can also try some regular Nylabones that are flavored. |
