Jesse's bladder problem

For those who don't know...some months back my Chihuahua, Jesse, had a couple of 'accidents'. Both times he didn't even get up from where he was lying. Each incident was quite a significant period of time apart from the other and after worrying about it I was eventually told that it was probably old age, but if it happens again...to make an appointment.
So!
He's doing it again. Actually he's been doing it a LOT lately. I've got an appointment to see the vet tomorrow afternoon (can't go any sooner...darn it!!!!), but I've been washing him almost every day now and his bedding has to be constantly changed.

I'm so worried about him again. I'm hoping it's just an infection so he can get some meds to clear it up, but if it's old age we'll have to live with it. *sigh* Poor darlin'...as much of a pain in the butt as it is for me, it's worse for him.

Keep your fingers crossed it's something that's easy to fix. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow night.

Cass.

P.S. LOL The receptionist that I spoke to on the phone when I made the appointment asked me if I could bring in a 'sample'.
I told her I probably couldn't because he's a Chihuahua and he's so small that if you were to go in quickly for the sample when he started...he'd probably just run away or roll over on his back and then it'd be everywhere. She couldn't stop laughing. Hehehehe! I love my vets...they've got such a weird sense of humour.

Oh no Cass, Let us know what you find out. I know my sister's lab was peeing the bed while sleeping and the vet said to give her vitamin C tablets. It solved the problem. But she only did it while asleep, it seems like you mentioned before that Jesse isn't always sleeping.

Hope all turns out well,.

Update!

Just got back from the vet.

Although we couldn't get a sample from him, the vet said that it could be an infection so she's given me a weeks worth of antibiotics to see if he improves. If not, it could be senility. She also said that it could actually be a combination of both. If it is a combo, I'll only see a little improvment..but at least that's something.

So we'll see how we go with the meds. Plus, now I've got to try and get a sample from my tiny guy. LOL Oh what fun!

She also listened to his heart and he has a strong murmur on both sides. She wasn't sure it had anything to do with his problem but it is probably the reason he occasionally coughs.
She did say that she thinks the heart murmur has been there a while and isn't causing him any problems so isn't that big a deal...but we'll have to wait and see. She's going to check it out more thoroughly when we go back next wednesday. So, fingers crossed.

However, she said that overall he's very healthy and active for his age and has an excellent coat. At least that's something good.

Thanks for all the postive thoughts guys. It's much appreciated.

Cass.

Boy, I sure hope the antibiotics do the trick and that Jesse will be back to normal. He sounds like a tough little guy...good for him.
Hoping the best for you and Jesse! Sending hugs and puppy slurps ( from Shadow) your way!!

Poor little guy!

I hope he feels better soon. I know that it's hard for them when they know they're doing something they shouldn't be (ie - going potty in the house) but they can't help it. Breaks my heart.

I'll keep Jesse in my prayers!

Make this cute little munch some stylish belly bands and use poise pads. Hope the medication takes care of the problem though. Be sure and tell us what happens next Wed.. Give Jesse big smooches and hugs for me.

Thanks guys! I think Jesse thinks I'm mad with all the hugs and kisses I've been giving him. LOL The whole heart murmur thing has got me more worried than the incontinence.

Trinity....He's 15 and still going strong. Well...I hope so.

Calgal....Thanks for the advice about the belly bands and poise pads. I'll definately look into that.

Cass.

Jesse has another appointment this afternoon. I'll let you all know what happens, but I just wanted to update you a little.

Jesse hasn't had an 'accident' at all this week. I'm sooooo relieved. I'm hoping that means it was an infection and not senility. However, he has gone a long time between 'accidents' before so not 100%.

I did manage to get a pee sample from him though, so I'm taking that in today and we'll see what the vet says.

I'm more concerned about his heart though. His coughing has become a little more frequent over the last week and I'm thinking he may have to end up taking something for that. Oh well, apart from that he's doing really well. He was so lively this morning he nearly yanked my arm out of it's socket (I was holding his leash) Which is a mighty feat for a Chihuahua.

Cass.
