Chloes teeth :(
I have finally taken the plunge today and phoned the specialist vet who cares for my sick little chloe.
I have booked her in to have her teeth checked and done if possible. He will have to thoroughly check her heart and trachea and also do bloods on her. Just writing it down I feel freaked out. Last time she went in for teeth was over 2 years ago and he said he didnt want to do them again ![]() My problem is this... If I leave her teeth in the condition they seem to be in surely its going to be poisoning her and making her ill???? If I take the risk of having them done I could lose her. Bones nothing helps I even brush them. She has taken to licking her lips a lot lately and the stench is unbelievable. Next friday at 9am we go over to see the vet. I would love some positive thoughts but I am terrified ![]() |

I hope the bland diet works out Linnie. Let us know what the vet says. Cass. |

This was EXACTLY the same situation I was in with Delsi. Delsi did extremely fine and bounced right back. Next, after Chloe has her teeth cleaned, ask the Vet. for Antirobe Aquadrops. (clindamycin hydrochloride liquid) You give 25 mg each day for 5 days once a month. This keeps killing bacteria germs that cause the disease. The reason her breath is so bad is because of gum disease. Some dogs have deeper pockets here and there at the gum and food gets trapped in them. Brushing isn't going to get them out. Also after her cleaning this time, brush her teeth either daily or every other day, but buy Crest Pro-Health mouth rinse, take Q-tips to dip and rub all over the gums EVERY day. I do Delsi's teeth after her last meal of the day. This way nothing sits in her mouth all night.

Calgal I have written those things down.. Not sure if I can get them in Australia but I sure will try. By the way was Delsi sick?? Thats the part that frightens me
Thanks eveyone for the positive thoughts. Wayne and I have discussed her situation and whereas we could live with the bad breath if its harming her we cant let it go on. I will let you know what happens after fridays visit |

i hear you. my little poodle with congestive heart failure that i used to have had horrible teeth. they were cleaned right before i brought her home from the vet hospital (so the hospital would eat the cost) and it was nerve-wracking. she had a bunch of extractions, but she did fine with the anesthesia.
later on, she really should have had them done again, but i was too scared. we did pulse antibiotics for her instead to help fight infections (she was on antibiotics twice daily for one week of the month). |

No, Delsi didn't get sick at all. There are a couple of things the Vet. can use to put her under. Ask your Vet. to use something that wont make her sick. I think gas can make them sick or at least really out of it for most of the day.
My decision to have Delsi's teeth cleaned was based on the same thing your worried about. If I don't have her teeth cleaned she will suffer a terrible death with kidney failure. If she dies while under, then at least she wont suffer. We just had to take the chance for her sake. The Vet. gave Delsi a pre-surgical lab work to see if she could be put under, and she could. Have your Vet. check Chloe before he puts her under to see if she will tolerate it or not. This way Chloe will be safe and it takes the guess work out of it. |

Yes I dont mind paying for all the tests in the world to make sure and he is a perfectionist so if anyone can do it he can and he wont if he thinks it to risky.
I suppose if thats the case he will give her antibiotics. and i will have to give her asodophilus (cant spell it) to help her intestines. Such a worry these babies are when something is wrong ![]() |

Oh Linnie....I noticed this thread rather late. I do think the vet will lead you in the right direction. I'm sending positive vibes your way. Do let us know how things go.
