Ginger Snaps for carsicks dogs?

Hi everyone me and my boy spend allot of time in the car together, atleast a couple hours over the course of a weekend and I'd say an hour throughout the week.

He gets horrible car sick and throws up everything he's eaten(Holly cow does kibble expand he’s on RAW in early evening and kibble in the morning) I tried using a small crate(plenty big for him) for transporting and covering it with a blanket. No luck it actually seems to be the movement\vibration of the car that upsets him. Once he throws up he is fine and just kind of lays down and relaxes.

So yesterday I'm at the local specialty pets food\stuff store with Molson and I run into a lady she was about to pet him I just warned her that he might be a little wet under his chin because he gets carsick.

She said "give him ginger snaps it'll work for sure I've been doin it for years"

Ok my little guy is only 5 1\2 months old and weighs about 16 lbs, does anyone know if this actually works and how much\many ginger snaps are you supposed to give. I would be very hesitant to give him an entire ginger snap cookie as he gets no people food besides very very small amounts of peanut butter to hold his kong treats from falling out to easily.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance

I don't advise giving any sugar cookie, but it's a fact that ginger settles the stomach. You can buy ginger in the Vitamin or health food stores in a liquid with dropper, gel caps or tablets.

i Gave Marley Ginger snaps when i took him out. I dont remember how much he weighed. I guess he was about 20-25 lbs at the time. I gave him 3-4 little ginger cookies about a half hour before a trip. he eventually grew out of getting car sick but now he does it again. I dont really know if the ginger cookies really worked though because it was about that time i started putting him in a kennel that was covered so he couldnt look out the window. I would personally recommened putting your dog in a crate or carrier. You dont hve to worry about cleaning the mess out your car. Bring lots of Towels!!! But good luck with it. I know how fun it can be.

Ginger, Lemon, and Cayenne help to settle the stomach and controls nausea due to motion sickness. My suggestion would be to buy ginger pills/powder and stuff it in some peanut butter or liver to trick her into eating it. You can also squeeze a few drops of lemon juice onto her tongue with an eyedropper if she tolerates it. Another suggestion I have is to roll down the windows a couple inches and crate your dog. Motion sickness tends to heighten when the dog can view objects whizzing by outside. As well, I would suggest restricting the dog's access to food about 3 hours before taking a lengthy car ride. Good luck!

Yup for any trip more than 5-10 minutes away he's in a crate but the handme down portable crate I have is getting to small for him and eventually I'd rather just have him in a doggy seatbelt(those are safe right?) My home crate is way to big to fit in the car.

It's nice to know about someone else using the giniger snaps as they might come in handy in a pinch if I don't have somthing else available.

YES I have lots of extra towels and their finally comming in handy

He seems to gets sick in the crate too whether I put a blanket over the top and he can see or not. I'll have to try this method a few more times. He'll need a travel crate eventually anyways but I want to wait and see how big he gets before I buy one.

Greenleaf do you suggest using the ginger, lemon and ceyenne together in combination?(yea I know duh but I just want to be sure)

Can you suggest an estimate of each ingredient vs dogs weight?

Most times I can remember to cut off his food intake but somtimes we just get up and go on short notice.

You should see him with these huge slobber streams down each side of his mouth, it's so sad looking.

Junket tablets are just that lol you go to your local grocery store and buy them normally you crush them and add warm milk to make a dessert.

He could safely have 2 or more.
I feel so sorry for him. You could also try rescue remedy as it could be fear related carsickness this helps to calm the dog down
