dog vitamins

there had been excellent threads on the best dog foods for your pet, but i couldn't find similar info on vitamins. I have a 6 year old rottie mix and have been looking around for a good vitamin supplement. Does anyone give their dogs vitamins and which brands would you recommend?

I make what is called Healthy Powder from Dr. Pitcairn's book. It has exactly what a dog needs. No more, no less.

2 cups nutritional (torula) yeast
1 cup lecithin granules
1/4 cup kelp powder
1/4 cup bonemeal (or 9,000 milligrams calcium or 5 teaspoons eggshell powder)
1,000 milligrams vitamin C (ground) or 1/4 teaspoon sodium ascorbate (optional)

Mix all ingredients together in a 1-quart container and refrigerate.
Add to food once daily as follows: 1 to 2 teaspoons per day for cats or small dogs; 2 to 3 teaspoons per day for medium-size dogs; 1 to 2 tablespoons per day for large dogs.

Just be careful with A & D vitamins. They don't need to be supplemented and can be harmful in excess.

I use "Daily Health Nuggets" from earthanimal.com. They work really well and you don't need any other vitamins or supplements, which I like. The only down side is that you have to give more than 1 or 2 per day. I just add them to Chester's food for a treat!

I have heard that Nuvet is quite good, but I've never tried it myself.
