Graying Muzzle on my 3-year-old, and thoughts?

I have a 3 1/2 year old terrier. I have noticed that over the last 6 months or so his muzzle area is graying. He is a black dog so I can really notice it. I spoke with his Vets on two occasions and they assured me that he is prematurely graying, not aging.

Any thoughts? I don't really like it so much.

Thanks!

Thats exactly what it is. It happens with dogs the same as it does with some people. Sometimes it's a matter of genetics but on rare occasion it can be caused by thyroid issues when it's greying of the muzzle. I'm sure if your vet thought that to be the case however he or she would have told you.

With 'my' breed, Pugs... premature grey is so common. Winston started to get his first grey hairs just after his 1st birthday, and now at age 4, he's got quite a bit of grey. I know of a black pug.. I think he's like 10 or so, but he looks like he waded through white paint.. his paws, legs, chest, tummy, and face are almost pure white, with his top half still mostly black. At one time he was jet black. LOL

I wouldn't worry... just makes them look more aristocratic.

They hadn't mentioned the thyroid but I have read that his breed can have thyroid issues. I will do some research and double check with my vet just to be safe. Thank you!
