I do not know what to do, I have a 2 year old female beagle and her gas is driving me nuts!!! She started out when I got her on Science Diet dog food, then I switched to Eukenuba, and now she is on Purina One (just switched). Her gas is still there, it is enough to clear out a room. Has anyone else had problems with beagles and excessive flatuance? Or any dog with this issue. What can be done to get this to stop or at least slow down, she farts it seems like every 20 minutes or so. Maybe I am exagurating, but WOW. It is strong.
What are some good dog foods to try that will give her less gas, or what pills/medication...... I am just about willing to try anything.... ![]() |

None of the three foods you mentioned are very good. Perhaps you should switch her again to something better. We have a thread here http://www.globalpaw.com/thread6858.html that is all about choosing a good commercial dog food.
I don't know if the food is the problem or not, but it's just an idea. Cass. |

I had the same problem
I have a female beagle as well and was experiencing the same problem. She was on Eukanuba when we got her and her gas was just like you explained. I would definitely get her off of the food she is on and try one of the ones on the list that was previously mentioned. I feed Maggie Natural Balance and her gas is for the most part non-existant now.
Good Luck. |

I agree, a better quality food will help reduce that. Cass gave you an excellent link to check out. Also, higher quality food means less fillers, so your dog gets more from the dog food, which ultimatly means that you'll have to feed less.
And less/smaller poops! That was what sold me right there! :P |

Does she ever get to eat anything else? Like treats? If so you may want to compare ALL the ingredients in the treats and dog food to find a common denominator. If your giving "real" food once in awhile, you may want to stop for awhile. First I would put her on a premium dog food and not give anything else at all for about a week to see if she does ok with it. Then when you do feed a treat of some sort, make sure it's only one kind only for a few days. This is how you can narrow the problem down.

My dogs have really bad gas too. I feed them Authority, i think thats a good dog food? I ll have to go look at the list. But their gas is really bad. I have a mix and a greyhound. But i usually let them out to go poop. Sometimes it s the case sometimes not. Sorry im no help just letting you know my dogs have gas too.
The worst part is sometimes you can hear it!!!! Eeewww ![]() |

Don't forget that with the sudden switch of all three of those foods can cause her tummy to be upset and have gas. Atleast until her tummy settles and adjusts to the new food.
Unless you had her on these foods for a good while before switching, then I apologize! But, you did state the Purina One was just switched. I would give her time for her tummy to settle with this new food. But, I do not like this brand of food and would reccommend feeding a different brand. |

Invite friends who enjoy toilet humor (probably just men)
and blame it on the wife. My mother-in-law blamed it on the dog when we she did it for two years after the dog had passed away. ![]() |

Thanks for the advise, I was under the impression the Eukenuba was premium dog food, I could have sworn I read it on this forum many times. The science diet is what she was on at the shelter, and the purina one I knew wasn't the best, but it was the best they had at the store I was at. I just got a small bag of that, will be switching to one of the better brands mentioned above.
