This is his third one since December. Vet has advised me to continue treating with the same antibiotic and ear cleanser and if it doesn't clear completely to come back for another ear swab to determine if it is sitll a problem with yeast or if it is bacterial or a mix of the two. He is pretty confident it isn't a food allergy, (Gunnar eats Innova/w canned Natural Balance). He has mentioned that it could be enviromental allergies but isn't ready to have me fork out the money for that yet. It is around $300.00 to do the testing which is much cheaper than a year ago when it was around 1,200 to test.
I am wondering if it is time to get a second opinion though because this many infections in a row tells me something in my boy is wrong. Anyone else have any experience with repetitive infections in dogs ears? |

Trust the Force...

Just thought I would share...
Our Great Pyr was a walking ear infection for over two years. We kept treating and cleaning and cleaning and treating. Just when we thought we had it beat, she'd start shaking her head again and was sore. Last August I switched Abby to Innova Evo dog food. No grains, 100% raw ingredients, just enough preservatives to keep it from going bad. Evo may be expensive (VERY expensive here), but we feed so much less, and ABBY HAS BEEN EAR INFECTION FREE FOR SIX MONTHS! We are going to try to switch her to a much more available allergy formula dog food and see if she still does well, but if she even gets a sniff of an infection, it's back to Evo. |

Thanks, I will pick up a bag of the Evo since it's not much more than the Innova that I am already feeding. Hopefully it is something simple like a switch of food.
