Anal Gland
Wesley was just sitting on the couch and when he got up we noticed a huge wet spot on the couch. I think he "expelled" his anal gland...but I'm not sure....Is that normal?

When anal glands expel, the fluid is usually very, very smelly. If you've ever smelled a dog that is terrified, that's the smell. It's very musky and foul smelling, usually.
Anal glands usually only have a few teaspoons of fluid in them, and that's when they're quite full and need to be expressed manually. Normally it's supposed to be somewhat like a sweat gland, produces a small amount continually. Is it possible he peed, or was chewing on something and salivated everywhere? |

Yeah unless they ruptured (trust you would know if they did) I cannot see a large spot being from that. More likely it was an accident or licked the couch.
In my experience dogs do not expell them for just any reason. Usually it coincides w/ aggression or fear, etc. and like Novel said it is very foul smelling. |
