5 am vomiting

a couple times a week My dobie, T, will just throw up on the bedroom carpet. He doesn't want to, isn't trying to and acts guilty afterwards (although I've not ever fussed at him about it). It's a very small amount (couple - three tablespoons)

I've tried to narrow it down to something he's eaten the night before but it's very inconsistant so I can't pinpoint it. I know the food is digesting cause it's just bile (yellow/green). Once or twice there's food chunks, but usually it's mostly liquidy.

I've tried changing his food to a lamb/rice mixture and that's helped the flatulance, but not the vomiting.

He acts fine otherwise and after the emptying of the stomach he's fine too and goes back to sleep. He has access to fresh water and sleeps on his bolster bed on the floor in our bedroom.

Any ideas?

I have heard many times when this is happening early in the morning that this can be caused by a buildup of excess acid due to having an empty belly. Many people have found that giving the dog a small portion of food late at night helps alleviate the problem.

Thanks Denise

same as in humans, then. Okay. I wondered about that myself. I'll give it a try and save some of his dry dinner for late-night snack and see if that helps.

else I'll take him to the vet to get it checked out.

I've heard the same thing. Like heartburn almost.

I would give him some food before bed.

Yup, my old dog used to have the same problem. He used to get 2 meals a day, but I spaced the food out and made it 3 a day, one being before bed and it helped out a lot.

this is just an idea, maybe it will help. i have been giving my furkids msm, since i started giving them this they stoped eating grass. i also take it. just so you know that it's safe for everyone. it has also stoped the throwing up with my furkids. and my acid reflux has gone away.

Sounds familiar! Shadow use to vomit first thing in the morning and the vet told me exactly what was mentionned to get some food into him. I usually try and give him a biscuit not long before bed and a little something the minute he wakes up....so far so good.

Weirdly enough I was about to post about the same thing. Sometimes shamous gets the gags and I thnk he is goingto puke. Eventually he does and sometimes he can't stop. I was wondering can you give a dog tums or rolaids?

My GSD just threw up some bile this morning. It happens from time to time and giving a snack (cookie) before bed the night before usually does the trick.

Lordy I feel ignorant this morning, but what is msm? We do have acid reflux around here and to know what humans and dogs can take would be helpful

Thanks everyone for the suggestion/explanations and suggestions. I gave him 1/2 cup of his dinner before we went to bed last night at 10:30 and there were no problems this morning.
