Updates on Harley, Lucy and Bailey
Sorry I haven't been around lately. My three hot dogs are keeping me so busy.
First, Harley's update: She is walking pretty well and has done water therapy 4 times so far. She loves the pool and wears a life vest. If we don't keep throwing a ball across the pool for her fetch, she will get lazy and just float. LOL!! We take her back for another follow up appointment tomorrow morning. So far the surgeon is happy with her improvements. They are slow and steady, she little better each week. She has graduated from a crate to a big playpen. Lucy is now allowed to to be in there with her and they sleep together at night. Bailey is too hyper yet! Now, Lucy's update: Lucy has a lump on her chin that sprang up overnight. The lump is really big and is not in a good place to operate on to remove it. They aspirated it 3 times now, trying to figure out just what it is. It looks like a histiocytoma, a harmless tumor that usually goes away on it's own. The tests keep coming back that it is an infection. She has been throwing up everyday since this thing showed up. She has been on antibiotices for a week and a half and there has been no change. We took her back to the vet two more times for different opinions and they finally are starting a culture growth of it. If they grow what ever is inside it in a culture dish, they can try different meds and antibiotics to see what will kill it. We will get the results from the pathologist by Friday ( tomorrow ) to see if they found anything new or if they know how to kill it if it is an infection. If it has to be removed it will require reconstruction of her chin and jaw skin. There isn't enough skin left to close if they remove it all. It's huge! She is really skinny right now because she can't keep her food down. She is still very playful and happy though. It's really wierd! Bailey's update: This is a good one... She has completed her CGC certificate. She passed with flying colors and did perfect on everything. I don't know how she did so well, we didn't get to practice everything very much for 3 weeks before the test because of Harley and Lucy. We did a few minutes here and there but not a lot of training. She is such a good girl! She has completely healed from her attack a few weeks ago and she is not scared of big dogs. There was a husky taking the test with us and she didn't even look at him. She sniffed a cockerspaniel while I shook hands with it's owner and then she laid down and ignored it. LOL, what a little snoot! That's it for the updates. One dog mended, two to go! |
