Cruciate Surgery
I don't think I have updated here on the condition of Kaede yet. He is now a year old.
He went for his surgery 3 weeks ago now and is doing just great. Xrays were taken before the surgery was done to make sure he had no hip problems, and everything cleared. WAHOO. He is already putting weight on his leg at times and is adjusting to it well. At his check up last week the vet said he was progressing far better then he thought he would of been by this point. He was amazed at how well he was doing. But it is getting hard to keep him down, and not excited. We play with him lots when he is laying down, give him stuff to chew, brush him, pet him, scratch him, just anything to keep him occupied. I even sent my other dogs to live with my father for the next few weeks so he does not try to play all the time. What else can I do so he is not trying to run around? I dont' want him to hurt his surgery. Also the other leg is okay. It's not as bad as his left one was, the vet said just to wait until it goes, if it ever does, but that he is not allowed to ever play fetch and that he should not be walking up and down steep hills. I don't know what to think of this. I want him to have the best quality of life possible, but I also don't want to put him through another operation unless necessary. The first week after the operation was just horrible, I cried so much because it was so frustrating seeing him trying to lay down and get up, he was always crying and he looked really stressed. I just felt helpless and I dont' want to see him go through all that again. Do you think I should just wait and see what happens? or get the other surgery done? It really makes me upset when I think of the reason Kaede had to go though all this.. Bad breeding This should not be allowed. It just causes the people who love these animals to go through so much pain. But he does bring me great happiness too, and I guess I would not have him if it weren't for her foolishness. Sorry I am rambling on a bit. I'm just glad that he is doing well now, and thought others might be curious to hear. |

How wonderful that Kaede is on the mend...I can just imagine how difficult it must be to keep an active pup quiet but it really is for the best. Do you crate him when you can play? He is truly blessed to be in your family and have people who really care. Good Luck!!

I am glad Kaede's surgery went well! It is so hard to limit their activity while they are recuperating. My friend's furpal went through the same thing. Her vet told her that the other leg would probably require the same surgery because although it wasn't as bad as the one they did that it might worsen after the 1st surgery due to the extra use it got while the 1st was healing. She ended up having the 2nd leg done and now her furpal has no restrictions on his activity. It was so hard with all the restrictions during the 2 surgeries and healing time afterwards but was well worth it in the long run although he does now absolutely hate his crate because it did require that he spent an awful lot of time in it.
Kaede is lucky to have you in his corner! ![]() |
