Is this normal?
Minty is my first ever dog, he is a 6 month old Jack Russell. As i posted yesterday he had to have his anal glands expressed. Since then he has been making some god awful smells. He seems fine in himself since seeing vet yesterday but his wind stinks really bad. Do you think it could be from having that done or could it be the Anti biotics he's on too?

T-Bone has horrible gas as well and I ended up changing his food. I tried all the gas products and even probiotics but the change in diet helped a lot.
My daughter (who has had internships at vets' offices and such) says she's learned that full glands can cause horrible gas too so perhaps it will settle down in a bit. T can peel paint off the wall and we all run for gas masks (figuratively) He's even run himself out of the room, after giving one of use the evil eye like we did it LOL it's so funny! |

That could be the problem...he could be allergic to the corn (since it is the first ingredient in the pedigree) or soy, etc. I would change his food immediately and see if that helps. What foods/stores do you have access to?

Oh gods, yes change the food. Both of those are terrible.
![]() We have a great article at the top of the health forum here about choosing a commercial dog food. It's just a guide but does give you a list of brands that are great. If you can't find those brands, use it as a guide to choose a different one. Cass. |

Eukanuba is terrible too.
If you switch find a good quality food. Check out the sticky in the health section that I mentioned in my above post.Cass. |

And if you do not have access to a better quality food you can usually get it online at a pretty reasonable price. Also if your pup gets table scraps a few of those can go a long way in producing some foul gas.

The product of anal glands smells make-me-puke bad! They could be leaking somehow. It has a musky smell like a skunk, but not quite the same. The fluid is also released in poo. I have to do my dogs about every 2-3 weeks. I have to do it outside or in the bath. It may be food, but it could be those glands. Yuck.
