Heat Spots?

My lab has what appears to be dried/scaly/gray skin on her front elbow joints. Are these just heat spots or should I be more concerned? She does not flinch when I touch them and they do not seem to bother her. Is there anything I can do to prevent them from occuring in the future or are they permanent? Thanks for any info.

Not sure by your description, but it sounds like what happens to a lot of dogs, especially labs for some reason. If they're right on the elbows, its where they are leaning on the floor, the hair falls off and the skin hardens and darkens. If you keep her from now on, just on soft surfaces it may not get worse; but it may not get worse anyway, and it doesn't get better or grow hair back. It's nothing to worry about. HOWEVER I am just assuming this is what you're talking about. Won't hurt to point it out to the vet in person the next time you have an appt just to reassure yourself.

I agree...it could just be from where she's laying on the floor or cement outside (if you have any). A lot of breeds get that it's nothing to worry about, however (as LVT has said) you could just point it out to your vet if you're worried.

Cass.
