We use revolution. It comes with flea and tick collars. Just ask your vet. They should give them to you at no charge. A lot of times they don't so you have to ask.

The website for this stuff I got Freedom 45 actually says it does repel fleas and ticks.

But does anyone know how long it takes to dry????? i put it on them last night and their shoulders are still oily this morning. I don't want to get sick from the stuff, nor do I want it smearing all over my house.

Yup! after working at the grooming shop , I will avoid the green grapes in fruit cocktail from now on Oh ! I figured you'd like to see the ticks we have here or what they look like anyway in the beginning before they swell up to grape size....

OK, this is a magazine called InnerMidst Magazine. I went back into it to see why the site didn't open for you. I guess I went thru a couple first, so try this then scroll down to Essential Oils and Your Pets

Man that is nasty.

I was hungry. Keyword being "was" bleh.

I ended up going with Revolution. Although it says right on the package that it helps against Ticks... so how come Shadowkins says it doesnt?

Is there something we should know? If it doesn't protect, then Revolution shouldn't say on the package that it does.

I do use Revolution on Shadow but one of our customers at the grooming shop said he used it on his dog and it didn't work at all! So I'm not sure what to think...I've used revolution for 6 years and have not had a problem.... that's why I was wondering what the other members have experienced.

I wonder if that person was using the correct dosage. I remember reading somewhere on the package that dogs over a certain weight have to use the right combination of colours.

I don't think we have ticks here, or if we do, I certainly don't hear about it. Fleas, yes. Heartworms, yes.

Yuckity yuck yuck. That picture of the deer with all the ticks behind it's ears made my skin literally crawl. I don't know how you do it Shadowkins! My hat is off to you for having to pull out those little suckers!

You're all confused b/c you are referring to ticks as if they are all the same. Some spread diseases and some don't. Some spread certain diseases that others don't.
Revolution only targets a particular type of tick, one which is not big for spreading diseases. It does not kill nor repel the majority of ticks, like those which spread lyme disease for instance.
Frontline plus does kill all types of ticks, but only after they have bitten the dog. It is also not 100% (nothing is- especially not these homemade "potions" which are not as safe for the pet). If your dog can handle the preventic collar (high chance of reaction to this, though still not common)- this repels ticks. Still- not 100%.
Best bet is to figure out what your needs are for your area (need both collar & frontline or not) AND check your best when they come inside. By the way, I LOVE the discription above for checking your dog- you are hysterical- i got a good laugh and pictured describing this to clients when they ask me at work how to check for ticks.... but don't worry- I won't "steal" your work I'd laugh to hard trying to say it...

We used Advantage on our dog and it did not work either...so don't waste your money on that! I want to try k-9advantix but am kind of skeptical because they are made by the same company.

LVT, I don't think we're "all confused"....this forum is for asking questions and educating each other, also for sharing ideas and experiences.

I tried the liquid stuff on Mandi, but it would not leave her coat normal. Her hair stayed greasy and weird for like three days before we washed it off. Right now, she just has the collar, because she get a bath everytime she goes down to the horse farm, I figure the stuff would just wash off. Since using the collar, I haven't found any fleas on her, but then again, it is just coming into 'flea season.' We did find one tick on her...once, but it was just crawling around in her fur. The collar is working for now, but I think during the summer, I may have to do something more.
