Delima with meds.....

Ok, I wouldn't call them "meds", but I'm having an issue with Frontline. I apply it regularly (monthly) and am still finding ticks on my dogs. They aren't dead, and I thought Frontline was supposed to kill them? Any suggestions of a different product? My vet doesn't sell K9 Advantix and I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with any other product? A friend of mine uses both, because one works better than the other on some of his dogs. Weird.

Anyway, any thoughts?

Funny you mention this, because I use revolution and was told yesterday at the shop that it does not work on ticks!! So I was considering Frontline....hmmm, wonder if the ticks are developping an immunity to the products on the market? It's happened before for other things.
The ticks are just dreadful here, we hardly go a day without a dog coming in with them. Sometimes the poor animals are just infested. We had one last week that came in, a golden retriever, it took us 1 1/2 hours to pluck the ticks off ,even before I could bath him...yuck. I will never eat green grapes again....that's the size some of these things were .
So I'd sure be interested in hearing from others about what they use!

same here....being in the country, with all of the deer, its just crazy. I was using revolution before, as well, and changed to frontline....well, now I need to change again!

Another reason is that Elite is probably going to NC again around July, and I know they are bad down there.

Frontline does not repel ticks. You'll still find them on your dog. I question even using it anymore really, I just check really well after we're out. I trust myself to find the ticks more than I trust the chemicals in frontline to be good for my dog.

Anyway, frontline, as I said, doesn't repel ticks. The method in wich frontline works is that ticks can attach and the they will die within hopefully 24 hours. If they don't attach they won't die. The theory behind this is Ticks take 24-48 hours of being attached to have their saliva infect the dog if they are carrying any diseases.

So by killing the tick before it can infect the dog, it "works" to keep your pet safe. It still won't stop them from getting ticks or bringing them into the house, etc.

How are you guys seeing them on your dogs? With black dogs I can't ever see them unless they are on their faces or ears? All the ones I have seen are black like the dogs.

So I worry all the time that I am missing them.

You know what I am glad you asked that bigdog cause I have the same problem with have I have found 3 on her and they were just crawling around. That freaked me out big time. So I just figured that they tasted the fontline and did not like it. Silly now that I am thinking about it.

Are you guys useing Frontline PLUS? In the past (before I started going with all natural) I used the Frontline Plus on my dogs and all the fosters and never one time saw a flea or tick, and 20 months of that, I lived in the woods in TN. I now use other things instead of chemicles, and still not fleas or bugs of anykind.

I use a my hands. I light some candles, get some wine,My girl gets a nice massage at some point and I run my fingers thru her beautiful hair and......I feel for ticks. Its so romantic. The candles are to burn them, and the wine, well its more a beer just for fun.

Cal, what things are you using, I don't really use frontline anymore just because if it let's the ticks on anyway, i figure i'll find them myself. I'm all up for something other than advantix or frontline.

Here is a really good site that tells you how to make your own repellents for pets.

LOL @ GSD...the visual image I got on that post was hysterical!!

I too, run my hands all over my dog. SHe loves it, of course. The link worked for me yesterday, and I put it on my Favorites list. Doesn't sound too complicated, just need to locate the oils.

I was going to use Revolution for Flea/Tick/Heartworm control... but now I'm not so sure. I don't even think I know what a Tic looks like! But I keep getting these weird visuals of grapes with legs.

it's a good thing I never cared much for grapes in the first place.

I just bought and used a product called Freedom. It is about the same as frontline, but i felt like I had to put "alot" on. Their shoulders are soaked.
