Hot Spot or something else?
Jazz has very thin hair on the side of her face. I go back and forth between it being caused by playing, or by something else, like her allergies.
At this time I am not putting anything on it, and she's had it for a few weeks. It doesn't seem to bother her, I never see her itch it. I used to believe that it was caused by Spirit, because she bites, hard, and when I first discovered it, there were scratch marks there. However, I don't see Spirit ever bite her there now, and I'm now favoring the allergy theory. Jazz can't have chicken, turkey or even duck. The chicken is the worst, but she seems to get very itchy from all of them. Problem is, the other puppers do eat chicken, turkey and duck on a regular basis. Jazz, through a variety of plans, has gotten some from the other dogs, usually, and I don't mean to gross anyone out, but because Al will throw up, and Jazz'll rush in and eat it! Yuk! Either way, when she does get into it, I give her a Benadryl, and she's fine. Her stomach doesn't get upset, but she gets puffy, especially around the eyes. I can always tell when she's gotten into something, because she gets little creases in the inside corners of her eyes. Either way, here is a pic of the spot. It hasn't changed shape, gotten any worse, or any better since it appeared. The skin looks somewhat red in this picture, but for the most part, it's the color of her skin, nothing different in that particular spot. Like I said, she doesn't seem to itch it, or notice it's there. It's on her show side, and I've decided I need to step in, because it's not going away on it's own. I have colloidal silver, which I will start using today. Any other suggestions? Again, I try and be as holistic as possible. ![]() |

Hmmm, that does look a bit strange. I don't think it looks like Spirit is causing it either.
When Jazz sleeps in her crate how does she sleep? Could she be rubbing her face on something? Is her doggy bed stuffed with feathers/down or anything that could be causing her an allergy while she is laying on it? It seems odd that after a few weeks it hasn't changed, not better not worse, not bigger, not smaller. Keep us posted, I'll try to keep thinking. |

I too thought it could be something she is laying on that she's allergic to. If I were you I'd send that picture on to your Vet. to get his/her opinion.
Let us know if you find out what's causing it. I sure hope it isn't some type of mange starting. |

When I look at it, the skin seems healthy. I supppose I could take her in and see if we can get a scraping or something to rule out anything like that calgal.
Because of her allergies, I guess I'm leaning that way, but, don't you think it would change?? It's also funny because the hair is only thin there, not gone completely. If you look at it from most angles, you can't see anything, only from this angle, as funny as that sounds. Hmm... Let's see if the colloidal silver, a holistic approach to hot spots and skin irritations, makes a difference. Just thought maybe one of you could say, Oh, I know what that is... LOL! |

I think I would have a skin scrape done.
It is in a strange place but I wondered if she could have a mite there? They can nip the hair folicle off and leave a bald spot. Im with you on holistic I much prefer it. Have you tried a product called neam?? ( not sure if its ea or ee) |

Spirit has to go into the vet this week, for her 16 week checkup, so, I'll take Jazz in with me to see what the doc thinks...
I'll let you know what we discover! Oh, and we've been using the silver for three days now, and I'm not noticing any change... but it's awfully early to tell. |

The colloidal silver isn't doing much, just helping the skin to stay healthy, and now she's developing a new spot on her left shoulder.
Spirit hasn't been to the vet yet. We were going to call last Monday, the 15th, but disaster struck the vet office on Saturday. Jason, a good friend, who works in the front office, was involved in a multiple car, multiple fatality car accident in front of the clinic. His girlfriend is also a vet tech at the clinic. Although Jason was not killed like 3 of the 4 people in the other car, he has been severely injured and may not be able to walk again due to the damage to his hips and legs. Long story short, Spirit and Jazz are to go in to the vet on Thursday, right before we leave for Bloomington and the show there. Although I haven't sat back and waited. With some research and talking with other Weim people, it is most likely part of her allergies. Some have found them to clear up with cortisone treatments, but I couldn't do that to her unless I absolutely had to. I'm going to try increasing her enzymes, paying closer attention to her diet and giving her more Benadryl when I see she has a flair up. |

Thanks for the update. So sorry about this. What a shame!!! She's such a beautiful girl and doing so well. I'd hate for it to interfere with her shows.
My horse started losing hair in patches and it was ring worm, which really isn't a worm it's a fungus I think. I'm sure that's not it probably but just thinking out loud. |

For the most part Robin you can't see the spots, they're more like thinning of the hair, and only when you look against the grain can you see it. So, if you look at Jazz from the front and side, you can't really see it, but if you look at her from behind, then you can see it, make sense?
Right now the goal is to have her recovering by the time we hit Nationals and see you in June. |
